Worth to Allow more than 10 Save Slots?

Post by Duncaroos »

Just saying, with all the possible game starts it would be nice to have more save slots to be able to have a few save files per run. Not sure what the limit is, but might be good to start thinking about expanding the # of slots :) . I'm thinking perhaps 20 slots now, which allows for ~2 saves per game start.

Only thing I can guess is to current limit of 10 save files per setup, to limit total save folder size.

Thoughts?

You can always do it manually by backing up your save file before you create a new game start. It would be nice if this was somehow offered by in-game UI, grouping saves by game start, but it’s not. Save disk space by deleting old and unused saves in the backup.

If you then want to go back to your progress with a different game start, swap your save file back and relaunch the game.

EDIT: To clarify, I’d prefer not having more than 10 saves, instead I’d rather have something like “Profiles” in other games, where you can keep saves from different playthroughs completely separate, and each one has a certain number of saves.

Either "profiles" where I can switch full sets or more save-game slots.

The steam cloud option (which I use as I don't always use the same machine to play) makes that difficult as it tends to undo the manual changes to the saves.

Just to echo what others are saying...

It would be fantastic if we had saves attached to a profile or character so we could start a new game with a new start without requiring us backing up our saves.

If allowed, it would be nice if only the top 10 odd use cloud. Otherwise this could cause excessive bloat on steam cloud due to the size of X4 saves, and either end up costing someone or annoying whoever is responsible for the steam cloud storage. This also benefits the player as they might not want every save to go to the cloud, for example only uploading the last save of the day to the cloud.

I would like this feature too, to have more than 10 save slots.

I'll say the way Stellaris or other PDX games did this was allowing you to select which save you want to save to the cloud and which doesn't.
My upload is shit so I don't use cloud because needing to upload all those saves + autosave + quicksave would take forever. Hours at best. Hours in which I couldn't use my internet for anything else at that.
So if I can just specifically select the save I want to upload that would be great. Currently I do that by manually uploading to Dropbox but it would be great if I don't need to do that and it can be done through Steam.

I wish there was a system to separate the save files into profiles. So if I have 5 different starts, they can be separate, and have separate saves. I wouldn't need 10 slots, but like 3 or 4 slots per gamestart.

It has unfortunately been the same with all previous X games. I still do not understand why a limit.
The player should be able to save as much as he wants. In Fallout 4 I now have hundreds of saves.
X4 is supposed to be a sandbox, but you can only create 10 saves in the game. That is a joke.
I help myself by regularly creating backups of the save folder, but this is only a poor workaround.
