The rules here stipulate no personal insult's. Being called a jerk is alot milder than some of the things I am usually called but as a word of warning if this had been aimed at another forum member you could have got yourself in hot water
Don't take things too personally. You got an opinion as requested, Having the escort run on a carrier would totally unbalance the script as it is not designed for this, It would become an easy money maker in it's current incarnation and therefore a "win game now" script. If I came across a tad curt with my reponse my apologies.
Well I thank you for your much more cordule response this time around and thx for letting me know that no it's not possible. I was simply thinking that alot of pirates attacking your carriers would be more interesting. Oh well I apologize as well. Obviously we just miss understood each other.
this script is nice, but i just have one suggestion...
because i like it when things are neat and tidy, could you please make the formatting for the message better? not underline all the lines and put some spacers or new lines in, highlight the important parts and so on.
just like in the winnable lottery script and overtune scripts. now those messages are neat...
I got offered 270,000Cr by a food transporter near the East Gate in Family Nji to escort it to the Quantum Tube Fab in Nji's Deception. "Yippeee! Easy Credits" I thought, but I followed it ,watched it dock at the tubfab, then undock and fly back to Family Nji, without paying me!
I then gave up and flew to the Trading station and was informed the mission was failed because I was too far from the target.
Alright, I finally got the courage to turn back on escorting, this time I was packing a modified centaur (with PBE's), a nova flying rearguard, and a mamba and scorpion flying escort with me.
Now, I can *see* where the pirates come from, and it's very clever and makes sense and kinda cool, but is there any chance you can insert some means of "detecting" the unmarked pirate ships? - my suggestion would be to add a piece of spaceweed or spacefuel to their hold so if they are scanned they go hostile.
All 3 times this mission I saw the suspect ships long before they unmasked their true nature, I hailed them, tailed them, scanned them fired shots across their bow, but only when they opened fire could I retaliate legally, by which time they'd unloaded enough HEPT's to do 75% hull damage to my mark. The one ship I did kill cost me Boron rep I think, even though there was almost no uncertantity it was Yaki masquerading as one (It was on an attack vector from the word go, max speed, tracking the TS precisely across the sector and was SO intent on reaching the TS it rammed into me (hence it died)).
It's kinda cool now I see it because you do have to think in order to keep your convoy safe, spot the would be attackers before they get there. But the one last piece of the puzzle would be to able to detect and catch out "stealthy" assasins before they open fire. Afterall, that is what professional bodyguards do - if you try walking up to the president, and ignore his body guards warning... well. Nuff said.
*goes off to count the 540,000 credit reward, and the Pirate Nova Raider he tagged*

Hrm, I can sort of see. One hand if you can detect them they can be stopped easily. But conversely when an M3 unloads it's HEPT's at point blank into a freighter with 25Mj's of shields, no matter how quick your trigger finger is your mark is about to chew vacuum.
Can you imagine if real life bodyguards could watch a guy with a gun in plain sight walk up to their employer, but have to wait for the guy with the gun to shoot before they're allowed to stop him?
Toughie...
Edit
Not so bothered now. Before when I was being offered 150,000 to face down swarms of Yaki M4's toting mass drivers, or being paid 500,000 to escort a ship beign persued by swarms of pirates, and tailed by assasins which i had no chance of evading still seemed a bit OTT.
But this last mission I was given 5,500,000 to take a ship from the south Paranid colony to the north; that's the kinda pay that buys my loyalty (Or more specificlly, a centaur, 2 pirate nova raiders, and a mamba as defence). Funnily only 3 assasins, and no pirates showed up that mission.

seems ok to me, in fact should be harder with a payout of half a million, games much to easy imho.
Ive also noticed pirate never attack me, they just go about there business it me who attacks them (npc egosoft pirates i mean) rather strange behavior.
every other time i either move into a new sector and pirates are attacking a station or they just move from a to b.
once i saw em attack a free trader and kill him, but only once, mind you theres no free traders left to attack now
Heh, I found an intresting way of breaking the script. If you are in a sector *you* own, (ie. one you edited, or bought in the auction), any assasin ships that spawn appear (naturally) with you as the owner.
Several split Scorpions spawned during one escort, and then it made 2 duplicates of one of my other ships, I knew what was up immediatly and sold all but one of them (Which switched to Yaki shortly after) - rather funny bug though being able to deal with the enemy by simply selling them and landing a fat paycheck
Also when I was passing through a pirate sector, 3 "Pirate Harriers" spawned, but appeared as neutrals and attempted to "sneak up" on me, trying to rpetend they were all innocent. And right at the end they switched kind of like "HAH, fooled you, we're not REALLY pirates, we're uh... Yaki!". "Well DUH!"
I have tried this for the first time and just find it way too hard. I have only a combat rating of Fighter Cheif and have a Falcon but when I do the mission everytime the ship gets destroyed. You just dont get enough time to protect the transport. This is really annoying as this is the first Script I have ever tried but its just too hard to be worth it.
You might want to look at behaviour of attackers in relation to AI police/military forces. Sometimes the attackers get ID quite far from the mark, AI forces attack them them and the attackers ignore them totaly and keep heading to the mark. Bit of an immersion buster that one.
LV, how are the payouts calculated? I got a 15mil request from Split Fire to Ministry of Finance (6 sectors). He's carrying weed.
EDIT: another thing, by any chance would your script cause a ship's pilot name to be stuck? As in a ship has an AI name, but boarding this ship doesn't change the name to eg Julian.
EDIT2: Wondering about some of the sneaky disguised attackers. Some of them jump too close, such that a single volley takes out the escort.
Some ships spawn as Pirates instead of Pirate. Is that intentional?
Also, I encountered an escort mission where his destination was a pirate base. He could dock except the defending lasertowers opened fire on it. I had to blow them up making the base red, if not he wouldn't survive.

Pilot name no idea, it shouldn't do as i only get the pilot name and never set it afaik with escort.
sneaky attackers work exactly as intended

Any idea how to fix it? IU got ove a million credits for my last successful escort mission. I want to keep doing that.
see the first post, at the bottom is a link to a script that will reset all my plugins and enable them to be called.

pirate pirates, dunno, does it matter? as far as the mark getting toasted at the base all i do is get the destination the ship is already going to, if it's on a suicide run it's nowt to do with me
Payout calculation
something along the lines of
trade rank + combat rank * amount of sectors travelled * multiplyier inc for every extra sector
