You can buy one whenever you have the credits. Just get a TL to dock with the shipyard to transport it (Your own, or hire one).

Go round and collect secret containers, or press on with the plot.

The plot is merely a training aid to show you how to use the game.

You know, half the fun of playing more complex games is the pleasure and rewards of actually figuring out how stuff works yourself

When I was about 12 I had a pirated copy of Civilisation (the first one - please note I bought it legally later when I realised the ethics) without manual and with irritating tech-tree ´copy protection´questions. To manage to get through that with no manual and then to play the game was hugely rewarding. Just try yourself with X2, youll really enjoy it, more than if someone holds your hand

You need to hire a TL to load a factory into before you can purchase one.

To buy a Factory,

- Fly within 8km of a TL
- Hit "C" to communitate with it.
- Talk to the Captain.
- Hire it,
- Communicate with TL Captain again and tell him to dock at a shipyard.
- Dock at shipyard as well.
- You should now be able to buy a station and load it onto the TL.
- Order the TL to go to a sector of your choice or get it to follow you.
(be carefull it doesnt fly into the back of you if you stop suddenly.)
- once you find a good spot for your factory, comm the TL captain and
order him to "Drop my freight here"
- You can only place the factory within the little box whitch will apear
on your sector map around the TL
- You are now the proud owner of a Factory.

also, to set up a solar power plant comfortably, your looking at the best part of half a million credits. (Buying the fab, buying a buyer & seller ships, some cash for the factory to start trading with)
