I've just upgraded to the above, but can't find out how it works. No new commands seem to have been added to my controls... What's going on??!
I've tried going through the "navigation" screen - and then I get a list of all the resources and products for each station, but the prices are just question marks: "???". So how do I activate this thing properly, so that, as it promises, I can "request detailed price information for all goods"?

What the tradng system extension does is to extend the range over which you can communicate with stations. It enables you to view prices at stations in your current sector before you dock with them, and it enables you to remote-trade with stations using any extra vessels you have operating. Plus in combination with the Best Buys and Best Selling Price Locators and satellites it enables you to interrogate station prices in other sectors. To do this:
There are other functions it enables, but it is so long since I started I can't remember what you lose without it!
- Call up the property screen. ("R")
- Highlight a satellite in a sector within which you wish to check prices and bring up the info screen
- Use 5 and 6 to check prices

Re: x2 trading system extension
Btw if i install it on the my NPC ship will it work?
So if my NPC ship flies into sector - I could see prices for the whole sector.
I mean not the ship I am currently piloting.

Your question, however, is answered in that very FAQ article CBJ linked above.
