OK....thanks.

Wasn't the crew at 90 before this fix? Maybe I'm getting my fixes confused :gruebel:

I have some stashed on an Oddy I was getting crewed up. I'll just transfer them to the Titan.

I have a fully crewed Osprey as well but the crew didn't go awol on that ship. Just in the one I'm flying.....the Titan, that is.

the crew was SUPPOSED to be at 90 but it looks like during playtesting it had been set to lower values and then not put back up before release

Odd Things When Mobile Mining
Hi - because of the excellent bonus add on scripts I recently re-started.
I was down in Barren Shores in my Demeter with 2 Gunnary crew in the turret doing some mobile mining.
With turret set to gunnary crew action stations I would collect ore (silicon to be honest) but off set from where the fragments where. Without "action stations" I collected as normal.
There had been a cluster spawn and I was pushing my luck so put the guys to work whilst I collected.

Cross post to FAQ and Release Thread - sorry was not sure where to put it.

Recruiting crew

Post by Trevelvis »

I have just got my Odi and at last I am looking into using the Aegis/ gunnery crew add on. I have read as much of the twenty five pages in this and I am sorry if I have missed this I just need to ask Are you better having a ship ( manta with life support ) docked at all the Argon Equipment docks and keep checking for crew as I havent got enough money for a Equipment Dock yet but want to take advantage of turret crew with my newly bought Odi.

Everyone has different ways of doing it, but I found the following way to be the best for me when I started getting my crew:

Get yourself 2 TP class ships (just the small version) - goto home of light and put one into the trading station and the other in Terracorp headquarters and sit back in your carrier and wait looking at your sector map...
Very soon you will see transports carrying troops come into the sector, mark it and watch where it is going to, once you determine that it is going to one of the 2 stations you got your TP's in, you switch views to the trade menu on your TP and wait (If it doesn't go to one of the 2 stations just ignore it and don't go chasing it, as more will be along... ) soon as troops appear in the menu get the max you can.
After you got the crew loaded into your TP, get it to come to you and transfer them across to your Carrier then send the TP back to the station it was sitting at.. - Repeat for as many times as it take to get the number you want.
It took me about 40-50 mins (real time) to get 123 crew I got now

Putting ships in a lot of stations would be inpractacle, as you have to actually watch the ships heading towards the stations, cause you only got a very short few seconds after they dock to get crew...

I have done as you have suggested and I have 2 Mantas one in Free Argon Trading Station and the other in Terracorp Hq and sat in my Odi waiting. I have sat waiting for at least 30 mins in which time there has been no Transports in the sector only liners. Not sure what I am doing wrong ???

I know that I need 90 for my Titan... - and since the Odi has the same number of turrets as my Titan I would have a guess and say that you need 90 as well :) :)

Wow got my 90 crew and went into Xenon Sector what a difference even without Aegis which I am saving for next. One question though. If when I get Aegis and I set it to capture will it be able to with GPPC & GPSG and can you cap J and Ks while at Admiral in Xenon Sectors or do you still have to wait untill you get them in Assasination missions ????

You can NEVER cap Xenon Js. You can ONLY cap Xenon Ks when they are spawned in a "help the Xenon are chasing me, here's two quarters and a piece of string and get me to the other end of the sectors" mission.

Reven / Burianek, I have a question regarding the turret AI, and when it's functional and when not.

I know that a player has the crew (and if desired, the AEGIS system) in his destroyer / M6 whatever to activate the improved turret AI. I know that the NPC ships in the game automatically get the improvement (well, the Pro Argon races anyways).

However, what about my own ships that I am not currently controlling? I know that having the crew makes no difference for OOS combat, but I sometimes go to war in a destroyer, and have several M6s flanking me. Those M6s do not have any crew. Do they still get the turret AI upgrade, or do they suffer from being a "player" ship, and thus need crew?

I know that I should be able to figure this out, but I can't.

Also, while I managed to scrape together the crew for my M2, it was a major bloody pain in the neck. I'm sorry, but sitting and staring at my sector map for an hour waiting for a ship to pop up so I have five seconds to buy 2 crewmembers is not my idea of "fun". It's more like bloody work, and I REALLY don't like my job. :D

Burianek, I noticed you put that script code on a previous page somewhere, but is that a literal script? Ie, if I copy paste that one line ( = [this] - > Install 60 units of military personnel ) into an xml file and Run it from the script editor, does it give me 60 personnel?

Thanks for the great work Reven!

yes. every ship that uses it needs crew.

you cannot create a script by copy/pasting anything into an .xml file. You will need to activate and use the in game script editor. The install command I believe is in the Object Commands section of the script editor. But yes, you only need to add that one line and then save the script and then every time you run the script, it will give you 60 crew.
Note that you don't type in military personnel, you select it from a list of wares.
Cheers.

Creston,

The job of obtaining the crew would be much easier with owning an Equipment Dock, but that is not very important. What important is to have 2 or more TPs equipped with jump drives. Place an advanced satellite (and/or ships with Triplex Scanner) in each of the following sector:

President End, Argon Prime, Rolks Legacy, Nathan Voyage, Omicron Lyrae, Home Of Light, Light Of Heart, Three World.

Keep checking the sector scan of these. As soon as you see a MP transport, get its destination and jump your TP ahead of the MP transport. You don't even need to be in person, just do the trade remotely.
Last but not least, make sure that you have enough space for 100 (yes, one hundred) MPs (300 cargo units), as I have struck the jackpot and collected 98 MPs twice, once in Power Circle, and once in Light Of Heart.

(I now have 3 fully crewed M2s, but that little task force is still no match against the Khaak destroyers :-(. I need to come up with some tactics.)

Hey Rev, could you make a side mod or add on or optional update or whatever you want to call it for this that eliminates the ongoing costs of using the AEGIS for those of us who aren't into that kind of thing like you suggested doing in your post above?

Or if someone else has already done that, drop me a link in a PM =) 25 pages of posts is way too much to read to find that x_x .... Plus it takes away from good X2-playin' time :D

First of, Aegis = Gunnery
But I see what you mean. You mean to only put a crew of 2 on the Nova without the Aegis software to man the back turret. Nothing prevent you from doing that, you gain some benefits, but you are not using the full potential of Aegis. What is the difference, you may ask, and I would like to know too, but the author & Egosoft aren't saying.

Sticking crew (only one I think) into the turret of an Argon Nova has worked for me. Basically you get missile defense as usual but the turret will also shoot at enemy ships when not engaging a missle and at a faster rate. No too great but its pretty cool!

Wrong. You get gunnery for basically free when you install gunnery crews in your ship and activate them. AEGIS is an expensive, 54 million credit, option that can be purchased from the Argon. It's not needed for basic gunnery crew operations. Read the readme. :P
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

Thanks Vincent, but I have very little patience for little treasure hunts. I already get annoyed if I have to dock at three different stations to find one BBS mission I can do in my current ship (it's never made sense to me why a system doesn't have a single BBS, and just tells you "come pick me up at Crystal Fab Alpha, then take me to Kingdom End, Royal Boron Trading Station, or something alike.), the idea of sitting there waiting for those TPs to fly somewhere, and wait to try to be quick enough to snag up four just sounds bloody irritating to me, and quite frankly, I fail to see what Ticaki or Egosoft find so "fun" about it in their game. I guess not everything is supposed to be fun in X2.

Having said that, it is indeed laughably simple to script them into your ship, which is what I've done. Thanks Burianek!

Just tried out a fully manned oddy with the aegis, it was awesome, mopped up a xenon sector and a khaak sector (3 M2's and an M1) in no time, only had to reload once coz a khaak m2 got me. Absolutely awesome the way it switches from long to short range etc, just need to try out the capturing now. :D

Could somebody please give me the link to the thread which discusses the weapon configuration? I believe it was Frymaster who explained, which weapons to load, how many and why.

Thanks!
Spark.
