The "Crysis" what's supposed to happen?

Post by Scoob »

Hey all,

Did the "Fleet-wide sensor" research a little while ago, then "discovered" the thing shortly afterwards. After some more time, I got a spawned invasion in Heretic's End, along with a mission to check it out. Both a Xenon Fleet - led by a Xenon I - and a Kha'ak Fleet - led by Ravager - had appeared. I'm tasked with "investigating" this... but I'm not sure what that means. I fly to the Xenon fleet, nothing happens, I hang around for a while - dodging fire - and nothing happens. I even get close enough to passive scan the Xenon I. I go check out the Kha'ak Fleet and Boso comments on it, but nothing else happens. I go back to the Xenon fleet... nothing happens. The mission does not progress beyond the "1: Investigate: Odd Xenon activity" stage. This goes on for ages, Xenon and Kha'ak fleets causing chaos. Eventually, I just go in and take out the Xenon fleet. Only after doing so, do I get a comms from Boso saying that local forces are having a hard time against them, or words to that effect. They're not, the Xenon Fleet is destroyed. Kha'ak fleet soon to follow... however, I DON'T engage the Kha'ak fleet just yet... waiting to see if the mission progresses at all. It doesn't.

So, what's supposed to happen here? At what point should the mission progress from "1: Investigate..."?

Also, the Kha'ak fleet just spawning, ahem, jumping in is fine lore-wise, Kha'ak work differently of course. However, for the Xenon fleet to just spawn in is a little more cheesy, just have them spawn and travel perhaps? I guess they could readily be destroyed en-route though... but then a message from Boso saying "Local forces were able to counter successfully... this time" would be appropriate. As it stands the Xenon Fleet spawned VERY close to a substantial fleet of my own, so destroying them was a quick and simple matter once I gave the order...

The issue with this is that it's not uncommon for plot / mission points to FAIL to trigger correctly, leading the player to keep playing not realising their game is now broken, and that mission will NEVER progress. As a result, I like to ensure a mission isn't stuck before continuing to play. I don't know if the mission is stuck or whether some other action is required for the "investigate" step to be satisfied and progress. As it stands, after killing the Xenon fleet did NOT see things progress, and the Kha'ak fleet is mentioned almost like "oh, they're here too" but the mission doesn't change or progress. I've now reloaded a slightly earlier save, but things still seem stuck on the Investigate step.

So, how did this mission progress for you? Was it just slow to respond? Was there some other trigger? What does "investigate" actually mean here? For me, flying and checking out the fleet with a ship isn't enough, nor is destroying the fleet. Trying again - after I post this - so lets see if things play out differently this time.

Edit: this most recent time, after destroying the Xenon I, I got a message from Boso along the lines of "local forces getting the upper hand" or something like that. They didn't, *I* destroyed them without aid. There are no local security forces in Heretic's End, it's a neutral sector. Mission has not progressed, but there's no Xenon left to "investigate" lol. Going to take out the Kha'ak Fleet now...

Edit 2: On the third attempt, several minutes after destroying the Xenon Fleet, and being actively engaged with the Kha'ak fleet (Ravager destroyed, dozens of Kha'ak Fighters and Corvettes all over the system) I got a message from Boso incorrectly saying "The Xenon fleet is heading out of the system, possibly to escape the indiscriminate Kha'ak attackers." Followed by "I beleive the Kha'ak and ceased jumping into the system". There was a final "I'll contact you when I have come to a conclusion." from Boso. To be clear, the Xenon fleet did NOT leave the system, I took them all out. PRAISE ME! Lol.

So, things did progress, but only on the third attempt - so, two reloads before the same set of actions triggered progress. Is this mission often a bit flaky with the triggers? Or is there some sort of random timed element at play? Might it still have progressed if I did nothing at all? I.e. allow both Xenon and Kha'ak fleets to continue to wreak havoc?
