Required Information in all Technical Support Requests

Please ensure that you provide the following information for all questions posted in this Technical Support forum.
  • Version and language (e.g. 8.00 Hotfix 3, English, etc.).
  • Whether or not your game is modified using any third party scripts or mods (see note below).
  • The game start you originally selected for the game in which the problem occurred.
  • Exact nature of the problem, where and when it occurs and what you were doing at the time.
  • Any possibly relevant changes you have made to your game, system, or software before the issue occurred.
  • Where appropriate, additional symptoms, error messages, links to saves, screenshots and crash dump files (see this Wiki entry).
  • Your system specifications in the form of a DxDiag report and vulkaninfo (see this Wiki entry).
Failure to provide all this information will make it pretty much impossible for people to help you and may mean that it takes longer for your problem to be identified and hopefully solved. So please don't waste your own time and everyone else's by just posting something like "My game freezes. Help!!!".

If you are supplying information that will not conveniently fit into posts in this forum (approx 70,000 character limit per post), in the worst case you can split long text files across 2 consecutive posts, or ideally you can upload the data to a reputable public fileshare site (a few examples are Google Drive, DropBox or PasteBin, etc) but please don't use sites that spam advertising or require registration for downloads. Please use in your post the open public sharing link to your file(s) that will not require any account or registration for others to download.

Note: Support for third party modifications must be provided by the authors of those modifications, and any requests for such support should be posted in the appropriate thread in the Scripts and Modding forum.

no consumables menu - Information Requested

Post by mchera1970 »

I am playing version 9 and not modified. I am presently playing cadet although I have tried severla others. I have 144 hours in game. The problem I have is when i am in a station and try to upgrade/repair my ship the comsumable menu does not show. This has occured in every game I played. I tried most of the fixes offered online but nothing works. I can't get any comsumables. I understand that I have to be in the same race station with the same race ship. I have even deleted saved game and reloaded the game. I last played vanilla and still no joy. This is my last hope as I have given up.

OK, a few Tech Sp report issues there:

1. A little bit of a DxDiag is of little use as it doesn't show drivers or error reports. How to supply the full DxDiag is in the Tech Sp rules sticky (Please Read This Before Posting) and was also onscreen when you posted here.
2. This is a bit unclear .. "and not modified" .. "I last played vanilla and still no joy." So was the save chain for this game ever modified or edited? Mods etc don't leave save chains whatever you do later on. When you deleted a save and reloaded was it a fresh vanilla start or just loading an older save that was perhaps also once from a modded save chain?
3. Without a link to a vanilla save there is nothing that can be investigated by devs or other players.
4. "I understand that I have to be in the same race station with the same race ship." Not true in vanilla, that faction requirement is only for buying the ship types, and not upgrading, repair or equipping.
5. Have you verified your game installation since you started having this issue?

Just to add to that, if you've ever had UI-related mods installed in the past, the chances are they've not been cleaned up correctly when you uninstalled them. One of the mods providing UI tools in particular is not installed like a normal mod and will often leave files behind that cause problems like this.
