Required Information in all Technical Support Requests

Please ensure that you provide the following information for all questions posted in this Technical Support forum.
  • Version and language (e.g. 8.00 Hotfix 3, English, etc.).
  • Whether or not your game is modified using any third party scripts or mods (see note below).
  • The game start you originally selected for the game in which the problem occurred.
  • Exact nature of the problem, where and when it occurs and what you were doing at the time.
  • Any possibly relevant changes you have made to your game, system, or software before the issue occurred.
  • Where appropriate, additional symptoms, error messages, links to saves, screenshots and crash dump files (see this Wiki entry).
  • Your system specifications in the form of a DxDiag report and vulkaninfo (see this Wiki entry).
Failure to provide all this information will make it pretty much impossible for people to help you and may mean that it takes longer for your problem to be identified and hopefully solved. So please don't waste your own time and everyone else's by just posting something like "My game freezes. Help!!!".

If you are supplying information that will not conveniently fit into posts in this forum (approx 70,000 character limit per post), in the worst case you can split long text files across 2 consecutive posts, or ideally you can upload the data to a reputable public fileshare site (a few examples are Google Drive, DropBox or PasteBin, etc) but please don't use sites that spam advertising or require registration for downloads. Please use in your post the open public sharing link to your file(s) that will not require any account or registration for others to download.

Note: Support for third party modifications must be provided by the authors of those modifications, and any requests for such support should be posted in the appropriate thread in the Scripts and Modding forum.

Defense station not defending itself - Explained

Post by AkrionXxarr »

I have a defense station in Windfall III being attacked by 2 Vig fighters and not doing anything about it in spite of its 55 Boson M and 98 Boson L turrets being set to attack all enemies and armed.

I loaded the save and the station was doing no damage to the VIG fighters as you say.

Boson lance turrets are very slow turning and slow firing and probably struggle to keep track on close crossing small agile fighters. They are more for use with distant or slow/static and predictable targets. If a turret weapon cannot get a good firing solution likely to cause damage to the target then they don't even fire (a bit like plasma turrets often not engaging small fast agile targets). This limitation is probably taken some account of even in OOS/low attention where turrets are played notionally.

I changed the turrets on your completed station defence modules from boson lance to a mix of beam and pulse and as soon as the weapon changeover was completed the two VIG fighters were quickly evaporated. I hope that helps.

That's interesting because Boson have regularly proven to be some of the most reliable anti-fighter turrets I've experimented with since they spend most of their time flying away or towards you rather then orbiting you (not to mention the range & projectile speed just make them better carrier turrets). Well thanks for pointing that out! I didn't think it would be that significant of a difference OOS. I'll swap around the turrets.

Of course your boson turrets might have a new bug in 9.00 ...

Yeah I am having the exact same issue with Boson Lance turrets. They work as expected on my ships, tracking and firing on the enemy small ships with some decent accuracy. But on stations, they just act as if they are disarmed. They are not even "activating" let alone rotating when the enemy is in front of them. On the other hand, I run a few suicidal runs on some split stations and for the AI the turrets were completly functional.

@ deathdealer379: Unfortunately 'me too' posts unsupported by a link to a related vanilla save showing the issue don't help the devs to investigate or test fixes. That's why the Tech Sp rules discourage them.
