Idea/hack for having player-configurable icons on the map?

Post by azaghal »

Recently there were some mentions of players not being able to set the desired/correct station icon in the map, and there was an explanation that the game has the icons semi-hardcoded based produced wares and what modules are available on the station.

So, if wares and ware groups is what defines what the station will be called, and what its icon on the map will be as well - what if we were to introduce into the game dummy wares/ware groups and for each one a special small station module? These ware groups would get their priority set high enough so that they would trump existing in-game wares, and I guess the module could be setup to produce the ware out of thin air - but at a very very slow rate - the point is just for the game engine to detect the station as producing the ware.

Now... The only problem then would be how to suppress the ware from showing up in menus, configs etc.But at least this would be one way to address the lack of customisable icons?

Unless I have horribly misunderstood everything and the system functions differently? So far the only thing I could not quite understand is how defense stations get their icon (my current assumption is that it is hard-coded in the engine in some shape or form).
