Hello Egosoft Support,
I have just purchased X4: Foundations on Steam. The game has never started successfully.
Every time I click “Play”, it immediately exits with the following error:
Exit Code 1027
A call to a Vulkan function returned vkResult: -13 == VK_ERROR_UNKNOWN
My system:
* ASUS Vivobook X1605VA
* Intel Core i5-1335U
* Intel Iris Xe Graphics
* 16 GB RAM
* Windows 11 Home 24H2
* Intel Graphics Driver: 32.0.101.7088 (17 June 2026)
I have already tried the following:
* Verified all game files in Steam (592 files, no errors)
* Completely reinstalled the game
* Updated the Intel graphics driver to the latest version
* Windows is fully up to date
* Visual C++ Redistributables are installed
* Temporarily disabled and even uninstalled AVG Antivirus
* Started Steam and X4 as Administrator
* Vulkan works correctly (vulkaninfo runs successfully)
* Other games work normally (for example Dota 2 launches without any issues)
The game crashes immediately before creating any configuration or log files inside the Egosoft Documents folder.
Could you please advise what could cause this Vulkan error on my system?
Thank you very much for your support.
Kind regards,
Jan

Re: Subject: X4 Foundations crashes immediately with Exit Code 1027 (VK_ERROR_UNKNOWN)
That Vivobook laptop with a low cpu clockspeed unless permanently on turbo, and with integrated Iris Xe graphics using system RAM rather than having sufficient fast dedicated VRAM, is intended more for home and office use and is only really suited for casual and light gaming - which X4 certainly is not.
It's the same as in this thread.
