[#5847] 9.0 using HOTAS w/ flight assist, throttle is set to 0 when joystick used - Resolved by unplugging Azeron keypad

Posting this for visibility, it seems to have been an issue for some time and is a significant hurdle for new players interested in the game.

Using a throttle and joystick setup, when flight assist is enabled moving the joystick resets the throttle value to zero. Moving the throttle will get the ship moving again, but as soon as the joystick is touched the engines are set to zero. When flight assist is disabled the controllers work as expected.

Game version 9.00(611726). Steam lists the Build ID as 23660954
No modifications, installed the game this week
I don't have any saves yet the problem occurs in the 3rd tutorial, "Flight"

Additional symptoms: I noticed (others have also noticed this) that my throttle is detected as a joystick (joystick icon in manage controllers dialog) but my joystick is detected as a controller (Xbox type controller icon)
Joystick is a VKB Gunfighter; throttle is a Virpil Mongoose CM3
Steam input is disabled
I have tried changing the order of the controllers in the manage controllers dialog, no impact
Disabling bidirectional throttle did not impact

Any workarounds that have been discovered would be great to hear about.

Can I just ask which specific models you have? I'm seeing five different sticks marked "VKB Gunfighter", and which throttle grip do you have on the MongoosT base? I'll see if I can pull together hardware to test this on.

The joystick is actually a VKB NXT EVO that I upgraded with the gunfighter base; the NXT and Gunfighter (Space edition) use the same grip

Great news!

In addition to my HOTAS I have an Azeron keypad. As I was getting the screenshots you requested, I noticed that the Azeron appeared as a joystick in the VPC joystick test app. I tried unplugging it, and now the HOTAS setup works perfectly!
