[MOD] Star Command - Fleet Careers V8/V9

Post by FakeDev00 »

Hi all,

I would like to introduce my new mod:

Star Command - Fleet Careers
https://www.nexusmods.com/x4foundations/mods/2105

Some of you may remember CODEA combined with another mod ?Pilots? from the older X games? That kind of idea always stayed with me: the feeling that a fleet is more than just ships, weapons and orders. The X series is brilliant at giving us the tools to build huge fleets and empires, but in my own games I often missed one thing: the people inside those ships.

After hundreds of hours, I could remember certain ships, certain battles, certain losses — but the pilots themselves usually remained anonymous. A destroyer captain who survived multiple campaigns, a fighter pilot with a long combat record, or a carrier commander leading major operations should feel like someone with a history.

That is what inspired Star Command.

The mod adds persistent military careers for player-owned ship pilots. Pilots can receive a career record, rise through ranks, earn decorations, build service and combat history, gain leadership experience and become part of your fleet’s own story.

At the moment, the mod includes two fully developed career doctrines:

- Terran Protectorate Navy
- Argon Federation Fleet

When starting a new save, you choose one doctrine for that save. That choice is then permanent for the current game, so your fleet develops within one coherent military tradition. More faction/race-based career systems are planned for future versions.

Current features include persistent career records, faction-specific ranks and rank prefixes, detailed combat records, service time, flight time, leadership tracking, major operation records, awards and decorations, a career logbook UI, and a global archive with rankings, hall of honour and memorial records.

The mod currently tracks things like ship kills by size and faction, significant kills, neutralized hostile objects, station/structure related combat data, fleet operations, confirmed contribution, operation results and losses.

This is still an alpha, but it is a tested alpha and already works well in my current setup. Since the mod deals with long-term save data, pilots, combat events and UI systems, I would really appreciate proper bug reports if you run into issues and are reasonably sure they are caused by Star Command.

Requirement:
SirNukes Mod Support APIs

It also fits nicely together with my other mod Galactic Identity, because that mod expands the identity and naming side of the universe while Star Command focuses on careers, ranks and fleet legacy.

The mod has been translated into all supported languages with AI assistance. I checked the translations as well as I could, but corrections from native speakers are very welcome.

I hope some of you enjoy giving your fleets a little more memory, continuity and character.

Critics, suggestions etc are very welcome!

Cheers FakeDev.

Update V0.3: Personal Career

You can now join Star Command yourself.

The new optional Personal Career feature lets the player maintain their own persistent Star Command career record, complete with a dedicated personal Career Logbook. Your player name is never automatically renamed or overwritten — ranks and prefixes are shown virtually inside the Star Command UI only.

When you personally take control of a ship, combat and flight-related career progress is assigned to your own career instead of being counted twice for both you and the NPC captain. The captain’s career remains intact, but Star Command now clearly distinguishes between captain command and direct player control.

Personal rank bonuses have also been added as a separate option. They only apply when both global rank bonuses and personal career bonuses are enabled, and they are designed not to stack uncontrollably with captain bonuses on the same ship.

New options:
- Enable personal career
- Enable personal career bonuses

The personal Career Logbook can be opened from the context menu of the ship you are currently personally controlling.

Both options are disabled by default, so existing saves remain unchanged unless you choose to activate the new system.

If you like to test it, critics, feedback, ideas are very welcome!

Next up, I’m planning to add more doctrines for the other factions like Split, Boron, Teladi and so on. If you have ideas for faction-appropriate ranks, titles, medals, or special awards, feel free to post them here — I’d love to collect and discuss some ideas with you.

Update – Split Doctrine, career progression and new lore-focused systems

Hi everyone,

since my last update, quite a lot has changed in Star Command – Fleet Careers.

The biggest new addition is the third career doctrine:

War Rite of the Split Families

This is not just a renamed Terran or Argon career path. The Split doctrine has its own rank structure, its own awards, its own promotion requirements and its own rank bonus profile.

The current doctrine setup now includes:
  • Terran Star Command
  • Argon Federal Fleet
  • War Rite of the Split Families
Each save still uses one doctrine only. Existing Terran and Argon saves are not converted or reinterpreted.

What makes the Split doctrine different?

The Split career path is built around speed, aggression, combat proof, survival, great battles, leadership through strength and family standing.

The Split now use:
  • A unique 10-rank career ladder
  • Split-specific promotion requirements
  • 32 harder-earned Split awards
  • A separate Split award set with its own AwardIDs
  • Split-specific rank bonuses focused on speed, reaction, manoeuvrability, sensors, morale and training
  • New award logic for fast kill streaks and multi-kill / outnumbered combat events
  • Awards tied to old conflicts with Boron and Argon
  • Separate recognition for Xenon, Kha’ak, heavy targets, survival and high family standing
The idea is that Split officers should not feel like normal fleet officers with different names. They should feel harsher, faster, more aggressive and more dependent on battle-proven status.

A Split captain does not simply rise through paperwork.

A Split captain earns a name.

Other important changes

The mod now has doctrine-specific max rank handling:
  • Terran and Argon remain 0–11
  • Split uses 0–9
Archive, Ranking, Hall of Fame, Memorial Hall and Personnel Overview have been updated to support the Split doctrine properly.

Split RankID 9 is treated as the final Split rank.

Split awards are shown in the Career Logbook and Star Command Archive, including highest award / top award display.

Rank bonuses have also been expanded for the Split doctrine. Speed is now a major part of the Split bonus profile, together with reaction, manoeuvre efficiency, sensor range, morale and training influence.

Pilot Loss / Recovery

The existing Pilot Loss / Recovery system has not been redesigned for this update. Split survival and scar awards use passive counters based on already confirmed recovery / loss outcomes. The core Missing / Fallen / Recovery behavior remains unchanged.

Feedback wanted

I would really appreciate feedback on the new Split doctrine, especially from a lore perspective.

The Split doctrine is meant to feel culturally different from Terran and Argon careers, so feedback on rank names, award names, tone, balance and lore feeling is very welcome.

If something sounds too human, too generic, too soft, too extreme, or not Split enough, please let me know.

I am especially interested in feedback on:
  • Split rank names and progression
  • Split award names
  • Whether the Split doctrine feels lore-friendly
  • Whether speed / aggression / survival feels like the right bonus direction
  • Whether the Boron / Argon feud references feel appropriate
  • Any issues with the new doctrine selection, archive display or rank progression
As always, Star Command is still a tested alpha. The feature set is large and touches long-term save data, pilots, careers, ranks, awards, bonuses, menus, combat events, recovery and archive systems.

Bug reports are very welcome, especially if you can include:
  • Mod version
  • X4 version
  • Used career doctrine
  • What happened
  • What you expected to happen
  • Steps to reproduce
  • Relevant screenshots or debuglog excerpts if available
Thanks again to everyone who tests the mod, gives feedback or helps improve the lore and long-term direction of Star Command.
