Assistance with X4 Lost Device Crash Issue
Response By Email (Kiran) (09/10/2025 10:49 AM)
Hi,
I am sorry to hear that the issue still persists.
While checking our internal tools for any known issues related to X4: Foundations, I noticed that there is indeed a reported issue with the game. Our developer team is currently investigating this, and we will keep you updated once we have more information.
In the meantime, you may also reach out to the game developer and report the issue directly.
Best regards,
Kiran

Re: Game (9.0 Beta) still crashes for me on the loading screen
By Device lost, is this the GPU being lost? If so that is often an indicator of either buggy GPU drivers or even a faulty/unstable GPU.
Looking at your DXdiag listing there seems to be a combination of generic kernel errors and Nvidia driver errors. As you use a i7-14700KF it could be that your CPU has suffered from silicon aging so is no longer perfectly stable.
Try disabling turbo boost, specifically the highest tiers of it, in the BIOS/UEFI and see if that helps. If that does help, there is a very high chance your CPU has suffered from silicon aging so is no longer stable at higher frequencies. If the issue persists, you can revert the changes to recover the performance.
Also make sure that your RAM is running at a frequency supported by your CPU. This is Up to DDR5 5600 MT/s or Up to DDR4 3200 MT/s as per Intel spec sheet. If using 2 DIMMs per channel it might be lower than this.

Apart from x4 (past 7.6) my hardware performs without error. GPU, CPU and RAM are running stable.

Please confirm that you have done the instructions I posted above. I do not see evidence of those in the linked thread.BenjiBaggins wrote: ↑Fri, 13. Mar 26, 11:48 I provided a link to the old thread where all the proposed solutions, tests and stress-tests are already done.
Apart from x4 (past 7.6) my hardware performs without error. GPU, CPU and RAM are running stable.
Specifically that your CPU cores are running at most:
- Performance-core Base Frequency: 3.4 GHz
- Efficient-core Base Frequency: 2.5 GHz
And that you only have 2 DIMMs installed in total configured 1 per channel and that the transfer speeds are:
- Up to DDR5 5600 MT/s
- Up to DDR4 3200 MT/s
X4 puts a lot of load on the memory subsystem and single core performance of a CPU. This would mean it is more likely to expose memory instability and CPU instability than other applications.
In addition to this you might want to try reducing the PCIe link speed with your GPU to see if that helps. Modern PCIe standards can be very fussy due to the strict single integrity requirements so running at a lower speed would help to rule this out.
The reason I am leaning towards a hardware issue is because:
- You reinstalled the OS already ruling out bad drivers or a corrupted OS. The reason you had to in the first place might also be an indicator of some underlying instability.
- The types of crash you are getting, kernel and GPU driver, are extremely difficult to produce accidently with user level applications like games such as X4. Especially with such randomness as to where it is crashing. If this was a problem with X4, then there is a good chance most people would be suffering from it, especially anyone with the same OS, CPU and GPU generation as you have. Given how few reports we receive of this problem that do not turn out to be hardware stability related it is extremely unlikely to be directly X4's fault.

Re: Game (9.0 Beta) still crashes for me on the loading screen
Hi.
I made sure all those values are in a safe region.
But it's still happening.
Update: Whatever changed in the Beta 2 seems to be good.
I cranked all the graphics settings to maximum an could play the Stranded-Scenario for 5 minutes before it crashed.
I'll try later with more sensible graphics.

Specifically that your CPU cores are running at most:As these base frequencies generally represent efficient and stable frequencies for the CPU to operate at. This helps rule out the silicon aging issue being the problem which usually starts to manifest at the very highest clock speeds achieved during low core count workloads.
- Performance-core Base Frequency: 3.4 GHz
- Efficient-core Base Frequency: 2.5 GHz
And that you only have 2 DIMMs installed in total configured 1 per channel and that the transfer speeds are:This is because running above these transfer rates (out of spec) carries a significant chance of causing subtle memory instability. This is especially the case if 4 memory DIMMs are being used since those require even lower speeds than the above to operate stablely due to the increased electrical load. At this stage I am not even sure why DDR5 chipsets offer 2 DIMMs per channel, since trying to use them seriously impacts memory performance due to the required drop in transfer speed.
- Up to DDR5 5600 MT/s

That's great to hear, after all the problems you've had, but it's still a bit of a mystery - both why you had the problems in the first place, and why changing to Linux made them go away.
