Request for Reimbursement of Time Lost to Case Normalization

Post by thorgarth »

Dear Egosoft Team,

I am writing to formally request the return of approximately two (2) hours of my life, which were recently consumed diagnosing a Linux mod-loading issue ultimately traced to the following line of code:

toLower(id);

Despite the mod ID and directory name matching exactly in case and spelling, the loader’s internal normalization silently rejected the configuration until everything was manually lowercased. No warning, no error message—just quiet refusal.

While I understand that Windows-based assumptions sometimes slip into cross-platform code, I regret to inform you that Linux noticed immediately and chose violence.

I do not believe legal counsel will be necessary at this time. However, I would gladly accept compensation in the form of:

A warning log,
A documentation note,
Or the knowledge that someone, somewhere, added a comment explaining why IDs must be lowercase.

Thank you for your time. I trust you will handle this matter with the seriousness it deserves.

Sincerely,
Me
