Making New Units!!

Post by philip_hughes »

Hello there guys
As you probably have been able to work out I've been working on computation from the ground up I was thinking of putting this into the computation thread and I thought no this is slightly different so I'll hand it over to you to think about. Essentially as I was going through all the computer stuff I realized that the units were quite confusing. I've never really understood what a ferret was and what is it cool and why isv equal to IR?

Is prompted a deep dive into the actual units of charge current capacitance etc etc. What became immediately apparent was the fact that Faraday and coulum had tried really hard to make something that was relatable. It's just it's not very easy when you're dealing with countless trillions of electrons that you can actually make something that's stable.

So I rolled up my sleeves and got cracking on a method of converting all of the units into something a little bit more usable.

let me point out at this moment his new system is for me no one else. I did notice that whilst I was doing this that some things fell into line we're a little bit fun and basically easier to remember. As such I thought I would share it all with you as well. You can do whatever you like with this information.

The basic problem is that we have to get a capacitor of n farads and then marry it up with a resistor of n ohms, put it onto a rail of yvolts, this naturally imparts any number of what's and joules into the system... I think it all adds up to 15 furlongs!

Here is the solution as I have roughly thrown it together.

Basic unit of electron charge is called the Meg now
A Diddy gig is one Meg by 10 to the power of 3
A diddy diddy gig is one Meg times 10 to the power of 6
I'll Short Circuit this by just saying that every did you add is multiplying it by 10 to the power of three and no I don't care if you replace that with you know mega giga Terra the standard si units.

It all changes when you get to 10 to the power of 18 however that's naturally a giggity

One cool on is now 6.2giggitys roughly
1 amp is now 10 to the 18th electron equivalence which of course is a Meg just because the Meg is the basic charge but you can use electrons it's just it's a theme
The number of molecules of water in Sydney Harbour is approximately 200 gigiri giggity giggity giggity giggity giggity

100 bits is now a quagmire
1/2 of a quagmire is basically a half decent computer
2 quagmires of electron energy is basically one Kardishev.

Now I'm fully aware that if you didn't start from the same spot that I've started you probably won't find the system as useful as I found it but one of the interesting things that I was able to do with this system was to actually start with essentially the electron charge and then shove that all the way up to a type one civilization and I thought that was an interesting exercise. Now have I correctly calculated what would be a solar system full of energy I really have no idea all I'm interested in is making sure that the little Boxy electron prison that we have contains the equivalent of n electrons within it and a wire is flowing at so many electrons per second that's basically the whole reason why I did this.

I now understand how much energy goes into your average bits and what is a reasonable amount of energy and computation that's kind of where I was at and even though it's still is a little bit confusing it's actually a lot less confusing than it originally was so that's a win please don't think of this as my effort to disrespect for Faraday and coulum because they are definitely good thinkers. I'm basically solving problems at the local level and I'm doing it with a certain amount of what I consider to be good humor

As long as you refer to having N diddy's and not... P Diddy's.

Yes! And a hey diddy diddy is an entirely superstructure unit!

That'd be 1 Combs, afaik.

Doesn't one P Diddy equal 50 months kept in an unexcited state in the little Boxy electron prison? :D

That is evil enough to somehow incorporate into the system!

Alright you asked and here it is one football is 6.0x10^6
1 pf at 1v- 1 OJ

DIDDY is under construction

FYI a football is actually a useful measurement because it's kind of what you make out of a couple of diodes and LEDs to make a primitive capacitor

Im still working out the details but force is in the electrical equations. Im now dragging out newtons laws and setting off i can efficiently combine them
