Tides of Avarice possible glitch - Explained.

Post by Quasarpics »

Hi guys,

So I just went through the Tides of Avarice plot, and managed to get to the conclusion where I was given 3 objectives:
1- Demonstration of Force (blow up a specific VIG station)
2- Pay VIG off
3- Work with the twins

Well, I farmed VIG for roughly 50 Barbarossas that are now the backbone of my station construction fleet, and decided that I don't want to give them money. I built a small destroyer fleet, went into their system, and destroyed the station marked as the objective.

The mission was counted as complete, and this is where it gets weird: Not only is VIG still hostile, the pay VIG off mission is still active. I was expecting that destroying the station would trigger VIG to stop being hostile, but they're still at war with me.
Do I really have to pay these cowards? 15 mil is chump change at this point, but I was hoping that getting punched in the nose would knock some sense into them.

There are only two real plot options from that point as indicated in the plot guidance and dialogues:

1. Side with the twins.
2. Go independent of the twins and take a VIG rep hit that is only recovered by both paying them off AND demonstrating that you are a credible threat by destroying a designated VIG station.

Of course you can go for option 2 and just live with the rep hit. That is what most players who go on to try (unsuccessfully) to totally eradicate VIG might do.

Note that in case 1 you need to destroy the VIG station as well. In that case reputation jumps to neutral, and you get ownership of all defense stations in the Windfall sectors.

So, destroying the station is not that difficult. You need to land a small ship there, before the hit, then teleport to that ship, sabotage everything and attack the station with ~10 destroyers. You need to finish that before the VIG hordes arrive.

I didn't realize the pay off was mandatory. I've been enjoying the hostilities since it's letting me farm such a massive Barbarossa fleet easily, but I'm at the point where I no longer need that many (Nearly 50 Barbarossas).
I'll just pay them off and go steal the Erlking.

Thank you for the advice.

Oh I destroyed the entire station, Brought my customized Rattlesnake, plus 7 other destroyers, and just bullied my way through their hordes of fighters, and destroyed it module by module. Even its build storage is destroyed.

The rep hit was great, since it lets me farm Barbarossas for free. I guess I'll have to go pay them off so I can wrap this up and go hijack the Erlking.

TY.

Since the Diplomacy update, there should be a forced faction surrender to the player if the player has inflicted enough damage on the faction, e.g., destroyed 80% of the faction's total economy.
