Specific CTD in X - Beyond The Frontier

Post by Athoms »

Hi everyone, I've been experiencing a specific CTD whilst playing X - BTF Steam version.

Every time I dock after attacking & killing a Xenon ship/ships
I get a CTD exactly when the docking video plays and only when the video plays.
I've noticed that on the occasion of me getting killed the same happens
when the "The End" video plays as well, so the CTD seems linked to the
video or audio playing.

However every now and then the video's actually play and I get to dock.
Does anyone have any clue what is wrong. The game works perfectly up
to this point. No problems docking etc.

I've tried verifying files and re-installs. I've tested and changed
RAM. I got a windows util to help with shutting down background apps.
I use DGVooDoo2 which allows me to force widescreen easily but the
same thing happens whether it's in use or not.

I have all the X series on Steam and I've always wanted to really
go through the story from the time I played X2 back in the day.
So if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

Below is my system specs. I'll try posting DxDiag report in a separate post as there's a character limit.
Thanks in advance.
Andrew.

I'm having trouble posting the DxDiag due to character limit. Please let me know which specific parts would be useful and I'll post that.

"If you are supplying information that will not conveniently fit into posts in this forum (approx 70,000 character limit per post), in the worst case you can split long text files across 2 or more consecutive posts, or ideally you can upload the data to a reputable public fileshare site (a few examples are Google Drive, DropBox or PasteBin, etc) but please don't use sites that spam advertising or require registration for downloads. Please use in your post the open public sharing link to your file(s) that will not require any account or registration for others to download.

Links to DxDiags, etc uploaded to a public fileshare site are much preferred to lengthy text embedded in posts."

The more useful complete sections of the DxDiag for issue investigations tend to be the opening System Information, the DxDiag Notes, Display Devices, Sound Devices, DirectShow Filters, and the Windows Error Reports at the end. That is so much of the entire report that you might just as well upload and link it.

Thanks Alan. I've never used drop boxes, never trusted them because of spam advertising but I now have Google Drive and need to work out how to use it.
Sorry I didn't reply sooner but life gets in the way sometimes.
Anyway, I've managed to figure out a way to get X - Beyond the Frontier & X - Tended to actually work on my system. I've finished X - Beyond the Frontier (got to the Xenon Mothership & escort Argon One home), and am now playing X - Tended. They both have the same problem of crashing when a docking video or gate video plays. I'm currently playing the games from the X Superbox CD and it does look like I've solved this for the CD, I just want to check that it also works on the Steam version. Then I'll make a post of how to do this on here.
It'll be a long post with piccys, so I'll have to use Google Drive won't I :)
