You should say, which game you play. I can't remember "sun oil". Anyway, the X-games support hundreds of stations making profit. There is a constant despawning of products in trade stations.

On an afterthought: "Sun oil" most likely refers to the level 1 food for Teladi. So L1 Sunflower => L2 Nostrop Oil.

Lev 1 + 2 food is part of the product chain for hightech products like Microchips, Crystals and Weapons. You normally use all the intermediate products for yourself. Depending on the game you need a LOT of those factories..., hundreds in case of X3:TC

If everything goes well, yes, and if not, no. In general, each factory operates independently and can also earn credits at another location. Of course, it depends on how you have set the purchase and sale prices. Normally, you can see from the station credits whether they are increasing or decreasing over a certain period of time, indicating whether you are making a profit or a loss. Sun oil doesn't ring a bell either, or do you perhaps mean Nostrop or Rastar Oil? When it's from a mod maybe it is something which can be applied to the skin or scales to protect against cosmic radiation like suncreen for space or whatever a modder would have come up with, most of them are very creative
