Anyway, Iong story short... A hilarious attempt to dual boot linux with windows resulted in reinstalling windows. This will be discussed no more unless you're a qualified therapist.
So, reinstalled X4, obviously lost my saves but was surprised to find old modified cloud saves, deleted those and started up a new game with the new start that comes with the envoy ship DLC, playing with controls with the HOTAS... the usual.
Game just started crashing when launched from steam. Verified files, no joy. Re installed X4, no joy. Verified files again, no joy. Found crash dmps in the x4 directory, read the lastest entry after reinstalling in WinDbg just to see if anything really stood out... something about dll files and memory, I really have no idea what I'm looking at... shot from the hip in the dark and ran a memtest, no issues found in the report.
Well I have no idea what to do from here. No really, how do I attached these dmp files, DxDiag.txt and anything else anyone would need to troubleshoot this with me.
EDIT:
Hello again! So I worked it out! Not sure what the heck happened, but I know why and how to fix it.
So while playing around with HOTAS controls I remembered there was some software that I could use to configure the HOTAS, I've got a PXN-2119PRO. It was only after I installed PXNs software that the asteroid hit the proverbial space station, uninstalled PXN's software, no more crashing from X4.
Mr Moderator: Feel free to delete this post if you like or keep it up should anyone else have a similar issue. All good.
Have a good one.
