Steam Machine and Future X5 Developement

Post by birdtable »

Will Egosoft take advantage of the Steam Machine ( Early 2026 ) to finally release on console as well as PC, or will the restrictions of console controller still cause difficulties. The new controller does appear to offer greater usage..... Time will tell... ?

I don't know about the Steam Machine, but I wouldn't count on a console release. I'm afraid it doesn't have enough processing power. But I'm curious to hear what Egosoft has to say :)
Laptop ASUS | Ryzen 5 3550H | 16GB RAM | Nvidia GTX1650 - X4 works fine... until you have a huge fleet and lots of stations :)

No need to get hysterical about that new hardware. SteamDeck is very consolish and Egosoft tries to make the game work on that hardware / input setup. It's no first priority though and I'd say the new Steam Machine won't change that. Come back when Steam Machine hits 80% market share.

The way you worded it, implied you see steam machine as console. "advantage of machine to release on console" --> "machine is a console".

There are also difficulties with console releases. Architecture can be very different, there are NDA, devkits and so on. It is not trivial.

It's quite functional on the steamdeck. I have a big hotas setup at home, but I've been playing on the Steamdeck for the past week and besides a few adjustemnt to the control scheme, it's going well. If you can supplement it with a wireless mouse for the menu intensive segment and the station building instead of using the trackpad of the controller, it's close to perfect. The upcomming Steam controller looks to be the same layout as the deck, so, I think it's gonna work just well.
