Terran Plotline Spear of Odin Going ???

I'm in the process of trying to get the terrans to attack the yaki. Emphasis on trying. The questline I'm on states they are assembling a fleet on the commander, who is piloting the Spear of Odin. One small issue. It has decided to go fight the argon and antigone instead. It is now going through argon and antigone core worlds, fighting things alone. If the commander dies, does that mean the quest ends and they have to "retreat"? I am very concerned. I thought the commander would go to the xenon sectors the yaki are in, through getsu fune. Instead, it is going everywhere except there. Is this a bug or just an a.i. quirk due to other wars happening?

Update: it is repeatedly charging into argon prime to suicide. it has died there twice and is about to do so a third time. The quest is telling me they are supposed to be pushing into xenon territory.

There's a one way gate in Savage Spur that doesn't let ships approach the Yaki that way. The shortest route for them is through Argon territory. And they'll have a better chance of making it through if you stay OOS and don't watch them (due to OOS mechanics). In other words, WAI.

I've been staying OOS for the most part, but they seem to keep running into one of the three giant fleets patroling aargon prime. the whole federation alliance is patrolling the sector. (tbf it was attacked by an I and 3 K's) Thanks for the heads up. I didn't realize I was reading the map wrong.
