External script editors – current ones? Surviving ones?

Post by HashtagMC »

Cheers all.

One of my scripts has gotten complex to a point where the MSCI just doesn't cut it anymore, so I'm looking for an external script editor. So far, I found three in this forum, however, I haven't been successful running any of them.

I got Exscriptor, which fails to emulate under WINE due to missing the – long deprecated – "wine-mono" package, and I couldn't figure out how to substitute modern dotnet for it. I got X-Studio, which – see here – fails, seemingly trying to find X³ files in my X² installation –, and then there's X-Studio II, whose launch post only seems to have dead links in it.

So, what's the current status quo vis-a-vis external script editors? Have any new ones been developed since, did I miss any, what do people use these days? (Assuming, of course, there's still enough oldschool X²ers left who do scripting.)

Any software people have successfully run on Linux? X² itself, the Steam version at least, runs perfectly fine in my experience.

I'd be grateful for any pointers and recs :)
My scripts' t-files use the namespace xx111x (e.g 491101, 441101, ... )

I don't know, what specific you need, but I use "Exscriptor" to write scripts for X2 for many years and it working without any problem.
