deposit inventory to capital ship

Post by thedavid »

This is a small request.

I was personally piloting a capital ship and I did a round of having my S size ships that are set to collect drops dock at the ship so I could run over and ask for their inventory. But as I was doing it, it got me thinking. Would it be possible for ships that can dock to just deposit inventory?

I know they can deposit inventory at the HQ. I'm not talking about that.

I mean, would it be possible for a ship to collect drops and then dock on a bigger ship and then deposit their inventory to the captain of the bigger ship.

And I know it is not possible right now. And no, I don't want a mod that does it.

What I'm asking is, is there anything in the game that would prevent the developers from implementing something like this, not just for the HQ but also for capital ships. Or at least a capital ship that the player happens to be personally piloting.

Something like this could be very useful for someone who doesn't have the HQ yet, or if the HQ is very far away or on the other side of hostile territory. In the early game, if the player has the base model Hyperion then that Theseus could be used to collect drops and bring them to the Hyperion which likely would be piloted by the player.

It's just a thought I had, not sure if anyone else has ever asked for this before.

would be good for mid game but i think they need to increase the drops and life time of containers anyway, most we use them for is early game money and modifications which i think need a new method to gain mods now that ventures are apparently done with, same with paint jobs.

In the mean time i suggest defence stations at gates with carrier and few fighters, then you can just safely set an M class to collect stuff, i use katana since its fast and teleport to it every few hours. (Hatikvahs choice is a good location to farm items that xenon drop whilst also securing the high way for your traders)

Much the same could be achieved with even more flexibility if we could remotely order ships to transfer their full inventory between captains. This could involve a bit of travel so that it is not an instant thing - much as the deposit at PHQ works now. That might involve docking at capitals or Aux ships, or just getting close enough for transfers between S/M ships, and for non-Aux inter-capital transfers.

Maybe it could even be expanded to involve Managers at player stations? In all these cases the only way the player gets hands on the inventory is by the ship going and doing a transfer at the PHQ, by arranging a full inventory transfer in person by speaking to the current inventory holder, or by being the captain receiving a close-ship transfer for those with no teleport.

It would be possible, it is simply not implemented.

Actually the game could use more inventory transfer functions in general.

I only recently found out that kuda air tweaks has an option (not enabled by default) that adds the "Hand me your inventory" to the comms screen. Very handy, if you are running modified,
you can gather the inventory without having to teleport, in my humble opinion an absolute improvement in terms of time saving and, one might say, from a science fictional realism point of view the most sensible way of doing it.

What I mean by that is:

Having reached a highly technological status, capable of teleporting the human body across the galaxy, it makes sense that the teleportation of non organic inventory should not require the presence of our illustrious protagonist.
