Exit Code 242
Upon starting X4 foundations, the error code 242 appears. The error message is Error: Vulkan: failed to find type/heap for memclass 1 MEMORY_CLASS_STATIC_MESH

Re: Exit Code 242
Hi. That's the exit code but we would need to know a lot more about your game and system before we could provide any meaningful advice or help. Your game version and mod status, DxDiag, VulkanInfo, and any Dumpfiles would be really useful to identify why it is failing in that way.

Re: Exit Code 242
Hi everyone,

I’ve run into a consistent crash when trying to launch X4 Foundations on my external GPU (AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT, 16GB VRAM).
On the integrated GPU (AMD Radeon 780M), the game runs fine, but as soon as I try to use the eGPU, it immediately crashes with:
and exit code 242.
What I’ve tried so far
Forcing DirectX 11 (-force-d3d11) → still crashes
-adapter 0 / -adapter 1, -novulkan, -safemode, -ignorepreferences
Deleted cache + shaders
Clean reinstall of AMD drivers (latest + older versions)
Forced high performance GPU in Windows settings
Disabled integrated GPU in Device Manager
Sadly, none of this helped.
I did manage to find some dump files manually and can attach them if that helps.
I also contacted Egosoft support on September 11 and again on September 19, but unfortunately haven’t received any reply yet.
I can attach the necessary files (vulcaninfo, DxDiag, X4_800_2025_09_29_07_34_59).
My system
GPU (eGPU): AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT (16GB VRAM, USB4/Thunderbolt enclosure)
Integrated GPU: AMD Radeon 780M (part of Ryzen 7 7840HS)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS
RAM: 64 GB
OS: Windows 10 Pro
Driver version: AMD Adrenalin 25.9.1 (25-Aug-2025)
Has anyone run into this before? Any advice or ideas would be super helpful
Thanks in advance!

Re: Exit Code 242
Same happened here after I upgraded the GPU to 9070. I use it in eGPU enclosure (Razer Core).

Re: Exit Code 242
Hi
I had the same problem: (egpu rx 9070 xt 242 exit)
Here solution worked for me:
1) disable all other graphic cards in device manager
2) download and run "AMD Cleanup Utility" (It will ask to restart to safe mode - restart and run soft in safe mode again)
3) afer restart install Radeon drivers
I was happy only 2 hours. 242 again. I don't have energy to reset graphic driver everytime I wannna to play X4

Re: Exit Code 242
@ Lucky_Wolf and kwar74: The problem is that you posted in an older thread where the OP did not supply information and hence there was no Mantis (Bugfix tracker) number and so no relevant dev involvement. You may have supplied further information but the devs aren't seeing it so nobody even knows if you have the same cause/issue as the OP.
My advice would be to start your own Tech Sp threads about this and supply updated information from the game version and your system as at today.

Thanks Alan Phipps, I will run new tests and create a topic on the forum.Alan Phipps wrote: ↑Tue, 13. Re: Exit Code 242
Ok. Now i'm fine. I'm on Adrenaline 26.3.1. I turned off "Przekierowanie AMD XGP" (I think "AMD XGP Redirect" in English) and game runs fine.
