Hello, i'm curious if there is a post or manual i can read on how to use them. in particular, the drone vanguard.
i understand i need the drone command software. i also understand how to link and unlink as needed.
why is there no special commands for the drone raider or the drone vanguards?
i load the drone vanguards with disruptor torpedoes and they just offload them to their mother ship. how do i command the mother ship to launch her drones and use the missiles?
further, the drone raiders have a repair laser and ire's installed in the weapons bay. that seems counter productive. do they use both at the same time? how do i get them to screen for missiles?
any help and\or further information will be greatly appreciated!
thank you.

Re: M7D special drones
Check the ship and see if it has a mis-match between Landed Ships and Homebased/Owned Ships. There is a bug where when you send drones to a frigate for the first time it will set it's homebase automatically, but it doesn't do it correctly. That mis-match might cause commands to not appear that should. The fix is to unassign the drone role and reassign it manually.
You should never have to buy the Drone Command Software for the M7D frigates.
For the most part, the drones are controlled by the ship they are based at. They are automated. But you still have to execute the proper command at the carrier level.

i do understand about the behavior of the drones not dropping their "dock at" command and not giving the carrier full management of the drones. i do know how to unlink and link them.
i my game the drone carriers come with carrier command software installed but not drone command software. if i don't have to buy that software, what is the point of that software? lol
my main issue is the drone vanguards. the carrier isn't getting any commands in her list for me to use them. i try to load the drones with disruptor missiles but they just offload them to the carrier.
thanks again for your reply.
regards.

Your drones intended for those frigates are regarded as M4 fighters. If you go to build one, they are listed with them at the HQ. So the drone command software handles the Mk1 and Mk2 drones? It recalls them when they are low on energy. I'm not 100% certain as I do not use drone command software. But your assumption of not needing it would be correct in my opinion.
If you want to upload a save file I would be happy to take a poke at it and see if it works for me. You can upload to google drive then post a download link in here. You'll have to share it out once it's uploaded though to get the link.

post script: i just noticed that in this save i don't have the vanguards linked and they are sitting in the carrier with the docking command active. i was messing around with them and forgot to link them again.

Its no problem. I was going to comment they weren't linked until I rechecked your comment. They definitely won't act if they don't show the M for managed. The mining drones are definitely not doing anything either. As are the Vanguard drones you mentioned. I think the manage function is pulling the missiles from the other drones as well. I think asking someone like Cycrow would be helpful on this.Fonz wrote: ↑Mon, 21. Apr 25, 17:57

I see OTAS is mad at you as well.

Sorry it took me a few days to respond. I tried, its doing the same to me.
Edit*** Additional thought, have you tried using them when your in system? The full carriers will hold there fighters during combat when you are not in system. At least they do for me. I'm thinking the drone command scripts work the same way.
