Encircled HQ rock
I'm sharing this, because it is a pain to get this right. The blueprint uses teladi modules. If you don't need connectors at the corners, you could use one of the long QUE span modules there instead.

Pretty cool. Thanks for making this modified HQ. Thankfully most of the older HQ mods also work after all these years. I've been messing around with the one that makes PHQ the Terran Hexadock plus the s/m dock on top. No roid of course and a simple canvas for PHQ. This one however looks quite interesting. New save to see how this fares. Good stuff.

Split/Paranid modules allow one to make a giant hexagon, but it is a bit harder to deal with it. And, of course, you could just rotate modules and stack vertically to make corner. The rounded circle to be the nicest approach so far.

@Many v's - For anyone who wants a Boron themed version ..

The ring connector at the bottom is the anchor (first in sequence) module.
It has Bridge defence modules (but not edited, so add your own weapons if required).
And 6 single pier docks.
One possible problem with this design - When Ventures next shows its face, a Venture module needs to be attached to the main station to work properly. This whole design is detached from the main station so just attaching a Venture module to the ring would not work. Whether you can fit a Venture module attached to the station itself, in between the station and the ring, I cant test as we dont currently have the venture module available.
Possible solution then is just to raise or lower the ring using the anchor module alignment arrows, to allow a Venture module to attach to the main HQ station.
You will also need to build upwards/downwards from the ring modules, so as to avoid module collisions with the Pier docks approach tunnels. Large Boron Storage modules are good for this as they have 6 connectors.
I use a 10x10x10 plot for HQ, could be made a bit smaller in the y coord.

Uses the same scheme for long connectors as your example. size4 + size2 + size1 + size4. If you want docks in the middle you could use size4+size1+dock+size1+size4.
