WTAF are these???

Kha'ak weapons platform is crawling with these little things with rotating red lights on. Looks like a drone or something?

Stations release those little, uh, emergency light drones when they get attacked. It's less noticeable on larger stations.

In some story mission (maybe the split story?) a station the player is on comes under attack and the dock you're on displays some neat flashing red lights. Players asked for that to be added to all stations and I assume instead of manually placing new lights on every single station module in game EGO just made those little drones instead.

They're on regular stations too!

lol... I guess someone forgot to skip some of the stations that should not have any.

Do they at least path around on normal stations? These were static, just sitting there, it looked pretty dumb. But that might just be because it has no path for mass traffic.

They are even on capital ships in construction. I agree it looks a bit silly. I appreciate the effort but I think what players wanted**, are the alerts when running around the station. I think a less but bigger alert lights would look much better on the outside.

I am pretty sure thats why they were added too.

I like to imagine these are Minions, and when they appear there is a war cry .. "BANANA!"

Isn't it wonderful that most knacks in the game can be traced back to "players asked for it"?

So Xenon also have these. Also motionless.

To be frank it looks ugly and kind of ridiculous. I like the idea of some emergency lighting in populated areas of stations but I can't fathom how that has led to weird little drones just blanketing stations in search beams. Why take the weirdest possible approach to such a normal thing?

When I first saw these, I just assumed they were lights deployed by the station module - pop-up lights if you will - but, on closer inspection, I realised they were little ships. A very unexpected way to implement this, but I guess far easier than model changes. It does look weird though.

Pop up lights would have been better tbh, but I don't see why they need to be external to begin with. When people asked for emergency lighting I thought they meant like... in places you can actually go. Seeing them on the Kha'ak platform I figured they must be like... a visualization for emergency drones/vehicles, or something, meant to follow the usual mass traffic routes, and that those ones were just broken and didn't path.

Distributing them haphazardly like sprinkles on a donut just seems like the strangest available conception of the idea.

I've seen them release when a single criminal spawns from the station. They ought to have some of their rules adjusted just a bit. Maybe only have them on non Xenon and Kha'ak stations, and only activated when a significant amount of damage has been done to the station.

They also seem very overcrowded on smaller modules IMO. Like Argon defence bridges/discs (since the Xenon wharf I tested uses these, for whatever reason). And their placement doesn't look at all intelligent, it's very messy and weird.

is there any mod which removes these little emergency light drones ? before, I liked to walk on on luxury dock and watch how defence platforms were shooting enemies, now, it's painful for eyes.

Yeah, I agree they're way overdone in implementation. Perhaps the latest beta, 7.6, which addresses video issues can address this, too. Not sure whose bright idea they were, but they should go without pizza for a week! :P
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

The 7.6 beta may indeed do so to some extent. From the 7.60 beta 1 changelog:
* Fixed attack alert lights appearing on wrecked station modules.

I don't think it made any other changes to them besides that, or at least not that I can tell.
