Does Egosoft still censor free speech?
I just learned that offending someone in Germany is illegal in that country. Does free speech not exist anymore? Are there no patriots? Is everyone a sellout? Will I get arrested for stating my opinion if I go to Germany just because they are offended of my viewpoint?
A certain moderator with a name that starts with a K and ends with rar banned me from X4: Foundations Hub forum for being annoyed at what I often post on steam. Instead of ignoring or blocking me, like anyone else would do, this moderator decided to abuse their privilege for no reason other than being annoyed for my viewpoints. Just to be clear, I'll post what I often type out word by word on every post that I can: I believe the player should be able to be the boss of the station manager instead of doing the station manager's job. Being able to turn on and off the priority ware mechanic will give the player the ability to be the boss of the station manager, instead of the player having to micromanaging an employee that should be smart enough to ignore something that isn't a critical ware when inventory of said ware falls below a specific amount.
If I'm banned for stating my opinion, just because it annoys someone.... I'll know my stance on all of the people who support suppressing free speech. Have a good day.

There is no such thing as "freedom of speech" on a privately owned forum. This is not being run by a government entity, and you are not facing arrest or legal actions for any of your views. The owners of this site are free to remove your abilities to post here, and have every right to do so especially if they deem your statements offensive. I fully support their right to do so.

Most internet resources are private property, when you're interacting with a private property, you obey rules set by the resource owner. Been this way for many years. Not in germany but universally.Vinerable_Sin wrote: ↑Fri, 21. Feb 25, 02:06 I just learned that offending someone in Germany is illegal in that country. Does free speech not exist anymore?
Free speech exists in the sense that you can talk to people face to face. In public faces that are not someone's property. As long as you do not break the laws for public places.

I'll also add, you paid no money for the right or privilege of posting here. By signing up for a forum account, you agreed to abide by their terms and conditions. One of which is to not discuss actions by moderators.

Do you hear yourself? This is saying: I don't have the freedom to type what I want to type in here while I'm typing what I want to type here because someone else pays for the thing I'm typing on. It's like you don't know or respect how many hundreds of thousands, even millions of people died for your rights just so you can make a point on a forum someone else owns and moderates for business purposes. At any time, the owners can change the rules to suit their needs. What is wrong with people in the world today? I wish you could see my head shaking in disappointment.

I would argue that free speech exists because people fight for it. They have given their lives for it. Those who cannot respect that don't deserve much respect in my view. And don't forget that property owners have to follow the laws too.vvvvvvvv wrote: ↑Fri, 21. You just don't understand free speech. It would be an infringement on the rights of the owners of this site if they didn't have freedom to moderate it as they see fit.Vinerable_Sin wrote: ↑Fri, 21. I believe that this is not the right place for this sort of discussions. Typically, "private property" is placed higher on priority list than "free speech". For that to change, you'd need to create a law, promote it and get it accepted worldwide. The idea would be to get certain types of resources recognized as public speaking place, thus stripping away owner's right to moderate content.
So far nobody has managed to make this happen.

I don't mean to be rude, but this isn't about moderation on this website or server. It's about being censored on steam because a moderator was annoyed from me stating my beliefs. You as a user have the right to block someone who annoys you. A moderator should have this same right and not abuse the privilege of being a moderator simply because someone annoys you... Or to put it another way.... Simply because you can. This is oppression of free speech. A fascist, communist or totalitarian like behavior. Defending this type of behavior, although it may mean nothing to you and is just some internet stranger posting nonsense, is very disrespectful to all those who died... Some which may be related to you by the way. This is unbecoming and very offensive behavior, and I want everyone to know so they can exercise their freedom to support or to not support Egosoft in their future dealings.

Surely steam also has the right to set the standards on their own platform, including, if they want, letting publishers moderate as they see fit. Similarly, most websites are allowed to have extra rules enforced by their operator over those required by the host. Or a platform like reddit might grant the power to have you banned from one sub for things that don't warrant removing you from the entire platform.

From what I can tell you do not seem to be banned on the X4 Egosoft forums, as if you were then you would not be able to make these posts. If this is only a ban on the steam forums then you may want to contact staff directly to appeal rather than aggressively attacking them in public. Staff and moderators are quite reasonable people.
As this is a game related forum, we try and provide a friendly atmosphere so have a low tolerance to personal attacks or hate speech. Even then bans are usually only issued in extreme cases as we do try to respect freedom of speech, within reason. I would imagine the steam forums are operated to a similar standard.
As this topic has nothing to do with X4 as a game I am moving it to off-topic.

I suggest you go and read the forum rules that you agreed to when you signed up to this forum. They state that if you have an issue with a moderator's actions, you take it up with them (or the forum administrators) by private message. This thread is in obvious violation of that rule, and will therefore be locked. As other people have explained to you, this has nothing whatsoever to do with "censorship" or "freedom of speech", and everything to do with you not following simple and clearly stated rules that are there to make this a pleasant place for everyone.
If you want to express an opinion about the game, positive or negative, then you are welcome to do so, provided you remain within the forum rules. If you continue ignoring the rules then you can expect to be formally warned, and eventually banned if necessary.
And a note for the benefit of anyone tempted to think that your complaint is genuinely about being "silenced" for criticising the game: you were temporarily suspended from the Steam forum for repeatedly spamming every thread you could find with the same thing, despite warnings from moderators to stop.
