So apparently this is an impeachment attempt gone bad, things are evolving fast so no summery yet, but Reuters has the latest:

Well apparently this may have been the most short lived attempt at a Coup that we have ever seen. The parliament just shot down the presidents martial law. Military units seem to be withdrawing and generelly not interested in siding with the president against parliament. Citizens are celebratign in the streets.

It seems to be over, thankfully. Now all that's left is the political fallout which could last for weeks or months.

From all I can tell and I am by no means any authority on the internal workings of South Korea, that is a pretty apt description. President Yoon Suk Yeol apparently tried to do everything to ward off impeachment for what seems like good old fashioned corruption along with censorship of the press. Seems like he gambled on someone, anyone, having his back, but nobody really liked him all that much.

We can only hope that any future coups/martial laws anywhere in the world was such civic and swift as in South Korea.

Bar some confusion and embarasment, seems like no pernament harm was done to anyone but SK President (and possibly his military advisors/supporters).
