X3TC Crash during treasure hunt

Post by RichieNL »

Hi all, after a long time not playing the game I got back into it trying to finally get through dead is dead mode. I got as far as last time, a crash during treasure hunt. When the jump drive activates in

for some reason this crashes the game. I've played both on Windows and on Linux, two different dead is dead saves. I'm wondering if there's something I can do to prevent it. Is this a documented problem, am I missing jump drive energy, should I do this plot before the one where an

It's a rare issue and only affects certain users' systems. You can see here (10 years ago) that you may not be the only one.

Nice to see you're still around! It's good to know I'm not alone, but I should've found that on my search through the forums. Thanks for the link!

Unfortunately there's no fix in that thread. I know people moved on to X4 as well, but I really want to get more than 3 plots finished in DiD mode. As for the causes, your guess is as good as mine. I played this and had this happen on both the Steam Deck and my desktop, so entirely different setups. It is still a possibility though. Not sure if it even makes sense to still try to get the the error messages from the recent CTD, as I wonder if it will be patched.

Regardless, do you know if there's a way to get 'event viewer' like data on the Steam Deck and/or do you know where X3TC stores those in Linux systems?

I could also test different scenarios and see if certain setups have a higher or lower chance of it happening, as according to that thread we can rule out that it's just in DiD. That should make it easier to narrow down for me in a separate, repeatable, save. It's also not necessarily the plot order if we're talking about the same bug.
