7.1 Beta 5 - Odachi destruction causes game to hang - actually a 7.00 since resolved in 7.10

Weird one but any time the Odachi from Timelines is destroyed in my Open Universe game, it causes the game to hang and memory usage to go crazy until it's killed via Task Manager. No crash report included as it does not generate one.

Save game - Odachi is parked near Tharka's Cascade gate, huge Xenon fleet waiting to destroy it after passing through but even destroying it with other player owned ships triggers the hang for me.

To make this weirder, the freeze when the Odachi is destroyed went away at some point in my Open Universe game and I have no idea why. It had even happened once earlier in the same play session when it was destroyed in Ianamus Zura IV while tabbed out, but a couple hours later it blew up again and nothing happened, which made me start testing more. I've included another save in Tharka's Cascade, I'm able to fly there now and let the defense station near the gate blow up the ship with no freeze, game continues to run fine... but if I load the earlier save posted above and do the exact same thing, the game hangs every single time.

Can you explain what, specifically, you have to do after loading the savegame in order to get it to hang? I loaded it up, flew through the gate, and then waited until I got blown up. Nothing unusual happened.

Nothing special, just blow up in it. Or see it blow it up. It causes a game hang every single time in the first save, no matter where or how, but for some reason by the time of the second save it stopped doing it and never causes a crash. I wish it generated a report, but I guess the game doesn't consider it a full crash since it's only hanging until it maxes out my virtual memory and crashes the entire computer. It must be something specific to my system but it's so hyperspecific that I can't even guess the cause. Nevermind then.

I just realised that the savegame you provided was made in 7.00. Are you sure you were playing 7.10 Public Beta 5 when you encountered the freeze? There was a fix in 7.10 Public Beta 3 for a problem which would have fitted the situation you're describing.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry. I was playing on Beta 4 and when the game updated a couple days ago, I assumed it was automatically downloading Beta 5, but I now see that Steam opted me out of the beta and rolled it back to 7.00 for some reason. I always tab out during the opening splash screen, so I didn't notice the giant BETA warning was missing. How embarrassing. I have since redownloaded Beta 5, and the game is no longer hanging in that save when I let the Odachi be destroyed.

If I may ask, what was the cause of the bug? I am curious because of how weirdly specific it seemed, the same Odachi stopped causing the issue later on during the same Open Universe game, and I spawned a bunch in with different loadouts using Creative Mode and I could not figure out what exactly was causing it.

No problem. At least the mystery is solved. And several people seem to have run into the problem of Steam unexpectedly opting them back out of the Public Beta, so you're not alone on that. :)

The freeze had nothing to do with the ship or its loadout as such; it was a particular situation with crew and the sequence of events involving those crew ejecting from the dying ship into spacesuits that caused the freeze. It could have happened in any ship, but was rare enough that only a couple of people seem to have run into it.

Aha! That explains it, I had crew in the earlier save game but by the time the later save game rolled around and the crashing stopped, I had sent them all out to pilot derelict ships I was flying around collecting. Thanks for responding, I was going crazy trying to figure out what changed.
