And did I understand correctly that in X it's much easier to hit enemies using "classic controls" like in X2: The Threat?
If you use mouse controls like in Parkan or War Thunder, the accuracy is significantly worse. Or am I not aiming correctly?
In the sense that there are two separate fire buttons: one for shooting straight ahead and one for shooting at the round mouse cursor.
And shooting at the round mouse cursor, even with auto-aim, is significantly less accurate.
What could be causing this?
x3 terran conflict aiming - classic controls is much more accurate that mouse control.

I have forgotten what the "auto-aim assist" modes were.
I think one predicts where to aim, when you have a target.
Most guns have "gimbal". They are not fixed to fire at single point, but can turn a bit.
On "better" mode they turn towards optimal firing solution, as long as you point the ship close enough.
When they should shoot where the mouse cursor is, they probably shoot where the mouse cursor is, regardless of where the target is.
Different guns have different speed of bullet. If you have mixed guns, they need different amount of lead in order to hit the same target. If mouse fire uses same direction for all guns, then not all of them can hit (unless the target stays still).

As far as I can remember there are a couple of different control schemes available in TC
The first is classic controls in this mode the guns will always fire striate ahead and when you move the cross hair over a target the whole ship turns as well this is how xbtf, xten, x2 and x3r work so its a control scheme I'm comfortable with as the game plays like a classic first person shooter like Doom where the cross hairs are locked in the centre of the screen and I control my movement left right up and down by simply moving the mouse
The other is mouse follow mode in this mode your guns are on a gimbal and the crosshairs can move freely around the screen freely but you won't be able to directly control the ships steering by moving the mouse instead the ship kind of drifts in the direction you move your cross hair and personally I don’t like this, and its this sort of control scheme that makes rebirth unplayable with a mouse and keyboard.
As for the aim assistance there are a couple of different modes here depending on what fight command software you have on your ship with fight command software mk1 you get a lead target assistance icon displayed in the hud and this is will tell the player where to aim to hit the target if you have fight command software mk2 installed then you can activate auto aim and when you have your cross hairs over the lead target assistance icon you will see it flash and the computer will automatically adjust the aim of your guns to allow you to hit your target more accurately, this is part of what made khaak m3s so deadly in the players hands in x2 because those kyon lasers basically never missed when using auto aim so you could just lock your guns on to a target and just hold the fire button and your target would go down in seconds long before they ever got in range to shoot back.
This is part of the reason I like beam weapons while they may not be as powerful they make up for that by being highly accurate when using auto aim sadly beam weapons aren't really something that is available in TC unless you are using a mod.
