Timelines; Nopileo's Memorial sector. Hrm.

Post by Nulric »

So, there's a new landmark of a station in this Timelines unlocked sector. But there's also some dormant Xenon around there; buncha captial ships. There's even a news story about the Argon moving in to deal with them, after you fly through the area.

What, if anything, is the story with this? Something the player can do here, that I've so far missed, I wonder?

In my save, the SCA helix station completely eviscerated the Xenon fleet, so the Argon didn't even bother to enter the system and went back home. I get why the Xenon are there, because in X3, Nopileos' Memorial was directly connected to Xenon Sector 101 (Matrix #101). Remnants after the jump gate shutdown.

Beyond that, there's 2 inactive jump gates and nothing else. Haven't played the Open universe long enough in the DLC yet to know if those 2 systems past Argon Prime can be claimed by the AI.

I like that they're making more special stations in the DLC, but they still need to have an actual purpose and have more explanation as to why they exist. Why did a bunch of pirates build a mega helix shaped fortress and why weren't the Xenon moving in for the kill?

Yeah, I agree entirely. The news article calling out the oddness of the dormant Xenon seem to imply...something. But, how long have they been dormant and just hanging out there, especially if the station ended up being hostile to them and blasted them. It's just a bit weird. But I completely agree that it is, otherwise, great. New unique and off station structures, sectors with history behind them, all awesome!

On a related note: Has anyone yet found out how to meet the new trader that's supposedly in that sector? I think I visited the Station around 30 times or so (teleporting to a parked ship makes it easier) with no luck.

Ah, I guess I was misled into thinking I had to hope for the 'elusive smuggler' named in the encyclopedia entry to show up :D. I was hoping to be able to by some rare modding parts or higher level seminars, as it doesn't look like ventures will be back any time soon. Too bad, I would have loved to mod some more primary weapons of the new ships, since getting those mods in vanilla is.... tedious

I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but to me the trader sells the generic stuff that all pirate stations do.

Also same here. Just generic HAT freeport or SCA pirate port selling items.

I noticed a line in, I think it's the 7.10 Beta 2 notes, that the Xenon ships in this sector now drop wares. Yep, here it is:

[Beta 2] Fixed Xenon ships in Nopileos' Memorial not dropping wares when killed.

So, were they supposed to drop something unusual, or are they just now dropping typical Xenon part drops? I can't check it out for myself at the moment, but I figure someone must know. I'm still puzzled by those ships' presence, considering Egosoft went to the trouble to get them in, and then to fire off a news alert that the Argon are moving in to destroy them (as if to warn the player).

I guess I just WANT them to be special somehow haha. Like, the only boardable K's in the Vanilla game or something  (which I've not actually tested)

So, for anyone interested, or who didn't know this.

One, I wonder if it's a bug, the Xenon capital ships that are dormant around the station are no longer dormant once the player enters the sector. Again, I'm wondering if that's unintended.

Two, the station trader on the SCA station now sells Xenon parts. Various panels, and other things. I don't THINK any other station traders sell such things, but I haven't spent much time checking out trader inventories on SCA or other pirate stations.

I guess the implication here, lore-wise, is that certain groups that count themselves within the SCA organization have been engaging in the types of things that the Yaki got extremely deep into; taking apart Xenon and perhaps researching components. Provided, that is, if other pirate station traders don't stock these types of inventory items. Those sneaky SCA!
