Re: No Man's Sky
Yes, the expedition did wrap up quickly after the slog. Well done on finding the 'S' class freighter, I built an 'S' class fighter and gave it a tiger stripe paint scheme.
Note: If you assemble a ship without finalising the built, you can see the supercharge slot layout, if you don't like the layout, back out of the build, teleport to another station, each station will give a different supercharge slot layout.

Re: No Man's Sky
Dont know if anyone else experienced this, but The Swarm Expedition final battle can last quite a bit longer.
Maybe its because I was quite relaxed about how I took it on.
But I got wave after wave of glass shard swarms, and instead of then going for the Hive I watched for a few seconds and then more waves came (topped up shields periodically).
After battling them I went for the Hive, and it vanished to another system.
So then you go to the new system and start over the process. But this time when I got to the Hive I finished it off.
Had a couple of multiplayer pilots in the same battle, and when we landed after talking to Atlas we did a little dance before taking off again.
Quite enjoyable, and a much bigger battle than anything I have seen before in NMS, much better than Sentinel space battles.
I guess it depends how you approached it, I wanted it to be a 3 course meal instead of a snack.
Hope this is a sign of things to come with big battles incorporated in other scenarios in future.
Only snag with this game is its designed by Hellogames to be Kid & Granny friendly.

Re: No Man's Sky
My fighter was tuned for DPS, so basically I ignored the swarms, destroying only those that fired at me, and went straight for the hive lasers, before turning towards the hive body, and ripped it down. Originality my Photon cannon had a DPS of 27073, but I found it to be a bit of a glass cannon, so I dropped it down to 15000+, and put a bit into the shields and manoeuvrability, better balanced.

Did you have all the supercharged slots grouped together, to get those kind of numbers?Redvers Ganderpoke wrote: Thu, 9. Jul 26, 06:29I swapped into Sentinel Ship and Infra Knife was the way to go.... (something like 67000dps).

A bit of weird timing Lizz a youtube game streamer from Germany got sponsored by Hello games to do a No Mans Sky stream. Cosmos update might be large and soon?

Re: No Man's Sky
Yeah there was another newbie streamer who was sponsored by Hellogames recently to do a video (cant remember where I saw it). Looks like HG are promoting the game again through unusual channels.
Thats a good video though, made me laugh a few times watching her first time experience.

Re: No Man's Sky
After an abortive start some months ago on 'Custom' mode, I'm trying again in 'normal' mode. I have to say, I'm struggling a little (mainly due to a neurological disorder) but having fun at the same time. I'm just a couple of hours in, and much of my time is spent searching for sodium and oxygen rich plants or (as I have just gotten the mining tool) digging holes to hide from sentinels. I had to find a copper deposit, and there simply weren't any in range so I had to do a hell of a lot of walking before one eventually showed up. I kinda like that it ain't just 'there' because you need it.
I think I watched the video mentioned, about things that are best to do within the sandbox, and I have to say the idea of acquiring ships and then a freighter is very appealing. -I think I am currently playing as a single player, but wondered if it is possible to switch within the game so other players are present, even if I have zero idea what that means.
Will be asking daft questions on occasion if I can't find the answers elsewhere.

Re: No Man's Sky
Back up your saves often. C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames You might have to enable view hidden folders in file explorer. In windows 11 the triple dot thing - options - view tab - and select show hidden files folders or drives.
Get the advanced mining laser module for the multi-tool. You can transfer it from a bought multi-tool or add it once you get the blueprint for it. Very important.
Freighters - There's different classes.
C class lowest
B
A
S Class highest - most slots in tech and freighters cargo (not container storage - limited to 10x50 slots?), most super charged slots, maybe a bit of extra jump range. You likely won't use the extra tech slots vs just using an A class
You can hire multiple living frigates. You feed them to change their stats. It's fixed values for each food but there are some better foods. You can also get a living fighter ship and make living upgrades.
You can hire frigates to run missions for you. Simpler than it sounds. Not that exciting.
Corvettes - You can scavenge your own corvette parts, buy/swap parts at the stations corvette landing bays, you can store your parts on the station also which is very handy since there is over 100 parts. Watch videos and pick a build. They will likely use offset techniques. It's a pain and can take over an hour. You can build a basic corvette and then use the beam down thing to collect more salvage to add onto your corvette. There's useful stuff to build on your corvette press z when on it.
Get the upgraded scanner multi-tool visor thing either from a purchased weapons (basically transfer the modules over) from a multi-tool vendor or unlock the ability to craft it.
Get to know the vendors on the Anomaly.
You can set up mining things. At least two types for ore and two types for gases. You need to get the blueprints. One type with solar panels, batteries and storage units can mine with no real maintenance other than emptying the ore/gas.
There's quite a few hidden things.
You can farm materials like animal stuff.
You get at least one chance to run a colony as an overseer.
Fighters can be dismantled into separate parts (one part per fighter dismantled) then you can buy an s class reactor from the ship upgrades vendor and assemble your own fighter from parts. With corvettes it seems like a downgrade but it's a different way to play. An occasional pirate station mission will give an s class reactor but rare. Easier to get freighter upgrades from pirate stations also assuming you don't choose other ways to get them.
Board a derelict freighter. It's an interesting experience. Get cold protection. Pirates have a unique X class module you can use along with the other protection.
There's a variety of exocraft.
You can get nanites a number of ways.
Expansion slots can be gotten easily. You can figure that out on your own or look it up.
You can recolour at least your corvette, fighter when building it, freighter, suit, pet.
If you go to the appearance modifier you can select a variety of races, body types, etc...
A vendor on the anomaly sells cosmetic stuff. Like armour, helmets,etc... for some mission currency.
There's a pokemon like pet battle arena. The tables at each space station. You can adopt pets (robots, anomalous lifeforms, beasts, etc... ) and train them up and fight. There's an egg re-sequencer on the anomaly. You can change your pets size, moods, colour and slightly chance it some times. Save before you hatch the egg. To create a restore point sit in your ships pilot seat and then get up to create the restore point. Highest pet class is S. Combat might be the most important stat? You can change those C B A S classes for pets. You use analysis visor on the creature setting to see the stats. You can change/mutate the pets skill when they hit level and gain another rank up. They will still be locked at 30 but you get a mutation each level after that and there's reward pills you can feed them but it really isn't needed.
There's lots of hidden aspects of this game.
Freighter rescue occurrences. This is how you get a free freighter. The rewards vary greatly and there's many tricks to it. Try to avoid getting stuck in the freighters hull and eventually blowing up.
You might end up with some echo things in your cargo. Activate one and follow the signal. It's kind of an early game hidden feature.
Flying pets like moths can be useful to ride depending on if you use exocraft or not.
If you go outlaw then on abandoned space station you go to back and up the stairway to the left (normally blocked off on outlaw stations) to upgrade your weapons and possibly dismantle them for parts. They are called spac/:??? or something like that. They have ship stations, teleporters and some other stuff also? The anomaly also has a place to dismantle weapons. You can get odd upgrades from some weapon types.

Go into Settings \ Network .. You can switch in/out of Multiplayer anytime without consequences. Also disable PVP, and if you dont want other people messing with your bases disable those Base Editing settings too for Only You.Gavrushka wrote: Mon, 31. Aug 26, 00:27 -I think I am currently playing as a single player, but wondered if it is possible to switch within the game so other players are present, even if I have zero idea what that means.
In Multiplayer you will mostly see people in the Anomaly, but you can randomly come across other players out in the wild. Happens more often when you take part in any Expeditions (there isn't one running at the moment), or if you come across any Community Systems in your current Galaxy. Because everyone starts in the Euclid Galaxy you are more likely to see other players in systems in that Galaxy, later Galaxies people get spread out more (or just haven't ventured yet beyond Euclid (there are many that even after 10 years of playing have not ventured further beyond the centre of the Euclid Galaxy).
Hellogames who have all the server stats for the whole game, said recently that even now after 10 years only 1% of the whole games Galaxies/Systems have been explored.
Anyway watch out for Griefers in Multiplayer, turning off PVP helps against them, but they can seduce you into going to their base, which has some Area Of Effect damage trickery designed to kill you in a confined space, and if you die repeatedly you lose everything in your inventory. A bad design of the game is the Gravestone when you die, it will hold everything you had when you die, so you can go pick it up, but if you die a second time a second Gravestone is made, the first one vanishes, and the second one does not hold your equipment (as it was all in the first Gravestone). Griefers with advanced traps will try to lure you in to such a situation.

That's great, from both of you. Thank you.
Yeah, I do like control over my own saves, so will do a daily backup.
Being an old duffer, and with so much to process, it can be a little overwhelming. I'll play at my pace, but will get the advanced mining laser and check the PVP settings as well. (I am now opted in to multiplayer.)
And I'll be sure to report my progress here.
There'll be questions as well. Many, many questions.
*edit*
Saves are 61KB?? Noooo! LOL, that is impressive.

From one old duffer to another (it's not as overwhelming as Elite Dangerous) it does get a lot easier as you progress. There's a lot to it but the individual parts aren't really that difficult. Once you get the hang of it you can have fully equipped good ships, freighter and loads of money within 20 odd hours.Gavrushka wrote: Mon, 31. Aug 26, 15:58

One of the quickest ways to get a " leg up " is do an expedition - If one is available at the Anomaly. Don't forget to scan everything (especially early on) and if you want a better ship cheaply let me know.

Re: No Man's Sky
Oh and if you are ever tempted to getting an NMS Save Editor DO NOT DO A GOOGLE SEARCH, the top result is a website which is pretending to be GoatFungus NMS Save Editor - That one on its own website is a VIRUS, and has updated its payload to be more insidious and evasive. It is capable of stealing your password, email address and taking over your accounts like steam. The only way to get rid of it is a complete clean re-install of windows. GoatFungus original on Github is ok, but very much out of date, and I feel he is losing interest.
You may not want one early game, as save editing can deny you of the progressive experience, but should you want one ..
Vector_Cmdr's "No Mans Save Editor" (NMSE) is the most feature rich of all of them, and programmed by a professional developer for his own hobby of playing NMS. Its now very mature and has had a lot of attention to iron out little bugs ..
At Github - https://github.com/vectorcmdr/NMSE
At its own website - https://nmse.vectorcmdr.xyz/
Vector_Cmdr is a wizard of a programmer, and is regularly updating when new versions of the game come out. Its an open source project, its portable (you can install it anywhere) and does not need any other dependancies (like java or .Net)

It is getting easier, and the enjoyment is ramping up on my second attempt. I'll never play efficiently, but I have started making money, due to 'needs must'. - For some reason my multitool thing was totally broke (every component but mining laser) and just after I'd installed the advanced mining laser and other stuff. - I have no idea how, and I was given no warning! - Anyhow, I had to find 1/2 million credits just to buy the stuff to fix it.Redvers Ganderpoke wrote: Tue, 1. I am just at the point where I've done my first hyperspace jump and even had my first combat experience! As regards a new ship... It's tempting, but I'm in no rush. I will do an expedition after I've a few more resources, a little more knowledge, and upgraded my current ship a little further.
@alternity, I'll not be editing saves, but thanks for the heads up! I am doing a daily backup, so if I totally mess things up, I can just retreat to yesterday.
I do love that the game just lets you learn things the hard way. I nearly died when rocks started shooting up in the air, not fully appreciated the warning about some form of disturbance or other. I *love* that you can play even when you have little idea what you're doing!

And I also just found my first new ship, and repaired it sufficiently to get it back to my home base.
I love the organic reveal of each new layer of gameplay. Love that I just used all my sodium to make sodium nitrate and then remembered I was on a toxic planet with sentinels watching my every move. Gardening yellow plants never felt more necessary...

Re: No Man's Sky
Oh there was a recent (newly sponsored by Hellogames) First time play through of NMS.
Its good to watch for a nostalgic look at what it was like for the first time (she also sings the song I linked previously), this video makes me smile ..

Re: No Man's Sky
The glass the sentinels drop can be clicked on and extracted like tritanium crystals. You can get sentinel upgrade modules for your weapon + exosuit. Suits and weapons have a 3 module type limit before overloading on that type. This doesn't include unique crafted modules and sentinel upgrades, etc...
If you press the esc key on your keyboard during the game you get taken to a new menu section. In the planets/discovery section when you completely scan like all the animals on a planet you get a large nanite bonus. Go to the planet in the list and click on (in this example) animals and there will be a section you click to upload for nanites. There's also an arrow you can click on for other data uploads for nanites. Completing a list gives the big nanite bonuses. You also get credits for scanning. ~ 500k for quite a few animals if you fully upgrade your multi tool scanner. ~ +12,000 % . 10,000 or 8,000 isn't that uncommon. The esc menu also has your faction rankings and shows your progression towards some rewards/milestones.
If you do the settlement expansion quest line you will soon get an exocraft called the roamer. You will still take environmental damage while in it. On the anomaly you need to buy the 4 hazard type protection resists to make it so you no longer take damage in the exocraft. Not really explained but an annoyance. Maybe do the settlement quest line on the ground to avoid bugs and it can get a bit creepy. So don't install the construction, exocraft (not the exocraft teleporter), multi-tool/weapons vendor , garden guy on the freighter or if you do don't teleport the guys back and forth. They might have fixed the issue but better to avoid stuff. I did it and it seemed to work fine.
Food gives buffs and there's an ingestion exosuit upgrade. You can cook and store food in your corvettes or freighters cooking areas. It has unique shared extra storage. You can get an multi-tool dedicated storage rack also which can go in the corvette and likely the freighter.
Fixing crashed ships is not always the best and requires a lot of resources.
The frigates for your freighters each have unique perks. You can teleport to each one to do something like get credits, materials or use to get information (exploration frigates).
You can warp your freighter into the system while on the ground. With the right upgrade module you can access the 500 (50x10) cargo slot inventory and the freighters main inventory. You can also do other stuff if you build other freighter rooms.
You can rename the cargo containers short names like 0,1,2,3, etc... so that the all appear in one window when you access them on your freighter vs having to select them by going through a list sideways. The cargo containers are shared on your settlements, corvette and freighter. They aren't unique but shared spaces.
Corvette habitation modules each have very different looking upgrades. Ambassador looks the most normal to me. Titan and the other one are more sparse/industrial.
When fitting external corvette parts together look at names for some stuff that fits well together. Like things named supercruiser fit well with other supercruiser named items, etc... Other modules might come close but not 100% fit together well.
There's quite a few corvette builds that have star wars ships, firefly, halo, alien (nostromo), etc... The insides of quite a few are too small to install all workable modules and storage containers.
Visit a wormhole.
If you want a staff weapon look at how to get one it's a bit hidden.
On derelict freeighters doors with 0 above the door are storage and dead ends but do have loot containers. Go through the doors marked 1 then 2 then 3, etc... There's other steps you need to do with data pads and the main computers.
Play in full screen. Bordereless fullscreen, etc... can have frame hick ups. Look up optimized game settinghs maybe? Nvidia app optimized settings are likely not the best
Corvette has autopilot and fighters do not.
I usually rempat the get up fro pilot seat in the corvette. Open the ship actions menu and go to the get up thing and hold control + 1 to bind it to 1 I think?

Re: No Man's Sky
A bit of the stuff you've mentioned is a fair bit in the future for me, Burger, but yeah, now getting the gist of what it takes to progress in this game. - I found the sentinels the toughest opponent when flying, btw. Nearly lost a fight to just two of them. Damn...
And grumbling now because I found the ideal ship I wanted as a replacement for my start ship while at a spaceport. To be cautious, I quit, returned to the game, and all the dock ships but mine had gone! LOL.
Right now, I am going to suspend all missions and just do a little exploring so I can access the resources I need in different systems.
Oh, and yeah, I see now that scrapping crashed ships is the best course of action for me at the minute.
