It's a slogan for nearly all politicians.

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
You know that may be true, but how many of those so-called politicians are dumb enough to stand up in front of a crowed of thousands with live and recorded television and say it out loud you have to be a special level of stupid to do that.
Remember a few weeks back Trump and co mad a big thing about a rally saying that there was over 100,000 attendees turns out that venue actually only holds 20,000, and it was literally only half full.
Then you had that rally Trump held during his trial where he claimed 25,000 attended it turns out he only had a permit for a maximum crowed of 3,700 so if it had 25,000 it would have been an illegal rally.
And now we had the weekend there, where the MAGA officials claimed there was a MAGA rally in Florida with 500,000 attendees, there were a few problems with this for starters when I saw the photo's of the crowed I instantly noticed something missing, there were no Trump 2024 or MAGA flags and a lack of MAGA/Trump hats. Turns out it was all a massive lie again as there was no MAGA rally advertised for Florida, but there was an open air concert and about the only thing MAGA about it was Kid Rock was the headline act and there was only about maybe 100,000 at it. Meanwhile, Trump was nowhere to be seen, do you honestly think Trump would not show up for a rally with a supposed crowd of 500,000.
You seriously have to watch and do your own homework to anything anyone related to MAGA or Trump say, you actually have to take the stance anything they say is a lie and prove it's true rather than the other way around.

I would stay away from words "all". It leads towards the apolitical mass that is Russian people, which only ends one way, and we are watching. Instead of saying "all" people should be active participants and elect those that represent them.

While I understand the sentiment, lack of quality politicians is not exclusive to Russian society or lead straight to society like Russian.
Lets flip the sentence to opposite: "I don't care about your votes, I just care about you".
Can you name 5 politicians who fit this description? Ideally from one country.
Usually those are outnumbered 1 to 100, rarely elected and treated like odd ones.
Trump saying quiet part loud might be weird marketing strategy that make things simple - I don't care for your issues or your feelings...your vote is the only thing that matter.
Now, how people decide to use that vote in response to his words is a different story.
Telling people that relation between voters and politicians is strictly transactional is like saying grass is green. The only difference is that it was said by Trump in his usual as*holish way.

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
Senators and representatives from States where I voted have represented the views of people that voted for them. Some people go further and defer to public opinion on some issures (I am thinking of an example, but I dont recall who that was).mr.WHO wrote: ↑Tue, 11. So as long as what they do matches what they were voted for, it's close enough. If their agenda doesnt match the people who voted for them, then it's a problem. It's better of course if a politician watches all concerns, not just of people that elected them, but that is rare.
So yes, I can start googling local and state officials and listing their names. I dont know them by heart.
Trump in this case actually fits partially, he does represent the agenda of evangelicals, anti abortion, pro fascism crowd. Not because he wants to, but because his views are exact match. And people who vote for him want him to rule and not to listen to them or public opinion. So the quiet part he said is agreeable to them. Is that irony?
My point was specifically about not losing a stake in the democratic process

The real question is what is Trumps agenda, he does all of those rallies, and he never actually says anything of substance, as far as I can tell he only wants to be the President as he likes the power and attention it draws to him, that, and he wants to stay out of Prison, but what he actually stands for I have no idea what that is.

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
I mean didn’t you answer your own question? Trump is unapologetically about Trump and how good Trump is doing. The agenda is Trump and how to shape America in a way that ultimately serves Trump. We can try to dig deeper, but I am convinced that there really is not anything deeper. In that regard I’ll say it is kind of refreshing. There are a lot of people who put themselves first. I however have hardly ever seen anyone who does it as openly and shameless as Trump.felter wrote: ↑Tue, 11. He recenty gone on record to say, "I don't care about you, I just want your vote" Which sums him up nicely. Plus he flip flopping on abortion. and a few other things. Its always I have something in X amount of days, will be a big announcement. He has no policy, never did, and never will.

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
So Trump and co must think that black Americans are as dumb as he is, as he keeps on trying to fool them into thinking that he is liked by the black community. The other day there he had a so-called rally in a black church they said there were 8 thousand at the rally, there are a few problems with that, for starters it was a small church that could only house hundreds not thousands, so I think they actually meant 8 thousand wanted to attend, but even that has issues as if you watch the coverage of the event you will notice that there are quite a few empty seats, all in all there were probably maybe around 300 in attendance. But the issues don't end there as it was meant to be a black church but yet the mass majority of those in attendance were white, only about 10% were black so around 30, it kind of sticks out on the coverage, but they seem to think people will fall for it.
So here's the thing about that, the mainstream American media did just that, and I don't just mean the right wing media but nearly all of them reported that Trump held a rally to a massive crowed at a black church and none of it was true, apart from it being held in a black church, not one of them did any kind of fact checking, and it was the easiest thing for them to check. And this is the kind of information that America is going to use to decide who is their next President, and it shows just how bad the American press actually is.

I saw that not long ago, and saw the image. It's clearly bonkers that the american press didn't fact check this. And I don't think the black community will really fall for this. Trump is just desperate for votes. and this is the best they could come up with to try and convince everyone else that Trump is loved by the black community. But he is a racist, and will always remain a racist. Just a pity that the media seems to giving him the attention that he doesn't deserve.

I just learned this. What did Trump do after his so-called black church event, well he did what any good white racist would do, he went to clean his dirty soul at a white supremacist event held by Charlie Kirk where they were waving flags with white boy summer on them. I mean seriously, how desperately low and despicable can one person get.

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
I think the other problem with news outlets from what I'm reading, not all are interested or care to really show how bad Trump's dementia is getting, and his decline in his mental state of mind. And this needs to be addressed a lot more. But I think the issue is, as soon as some do, then they will not only get attacked by Trump and co, but also denied anymore interviews. For a man who is suppose to sit on america's top job, then their state of health and their mental health should be a concern. But even the GOP don't seem to care or want to know.
Also, it seems that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. fails to qualify for CNN's debate. I personally think that is a bad idea. From what little I can gather, he didn't meet the criteria to get a spot. But I think the real issue is, like the UK, its always going to be a two horse race. And outsiders don't have much of a chance. (certainly true in the UK, unless its a power sharing agreement)

What the hell was that debate? Biden seemed as if he was about keel over at any moment and Trump lied through his teeth the entire time, without getting called on it by Biden. This was some insanity, honestly. Then they suddenly talk about golf? Because apparently this really is about an ego contest between two old guys who should have this discussion in a retirement home in Florida not on a world stage for all to see. Is that really the best America has to offer?

2024 - yep, this is it. You vote for Biden to keep Trump out and you vote Trump because want to stick it to the other side.clakclak wrote: ↑Fri, 28. Jun 24, 10:37 What the hell was that debate? So it kinda devolves on who the people around those two are. We live in interesting times.

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
While I not watched the debate, but from what I have picked up, the moderators did a really poor job of keeping Trump in line. He did not answer any of the questions is a good way. He lied through his teeth without any fact checking or push back. So Trump was able to say stuff without any real restriction. While if the mods HAD followed their own rules, then Trump's mic would have been cut off many times.
In that case, one can not call it a debate.
It seems Biden was in a bit of a bad spot, the event should have been postponed, or cancelled. If there is going to be another, then Trump needs to be controlled. and fact checked. But the problem is, I doubt they will. Which means, Trump will win. And this is a sadd turn of events.

Aparently Biden was having a cold during debate.
Let who never had a cold/stomach ache/head ache during important meeting/exam, be the first to throw the stone.
Now add up that both Biden and Trump are 80+ and on election campain road (which is intense like Rock Star tour), so it's perfectly possible for Biden to be on a bit slump.
For Trump as well, he's not a spring chicken anymore.
While it's good to ask, if there isn't any good 50-60-70 years old "youngsters" among 330 milion nation, don't treat it like a perfect medicine for all your troubles.
Look at Europe - Macron, Scholtz, Sunak and many more - much younger than Trump or Biden, but in the end - do they fare much better despite their younger age?
As for debate - it looks like they done dirty to Kennedy Jr. - he could have been a 3rd party to break the stale pace of the debate.
