Question on Boarding - Can you stop an in progress op?

Post by alt3rn1ty »

Another question before I submit a report :

I was trying out Boarding the Erlking yesterday.

Bought an Ody E, all crew Marines. Pointed at the Erlking and setup Boarding.
Then decided that was a pants idea while the op was at stage 1 ..
I right clicked the Ody and selected Remove all orders and assignments.
Then I sold the ship to the Paranids.
Then bought another ship with far more crew space for Marines ..

.. Only to find the previous Boarding op, still at stage 1, was ongoing.

So questions :

Can a Boarding op be stopped with any command.
And, I mean it doesnt make sense if the ship is allowed to be sold during the op when the op cant be stopped.
Is something wrong here or is it WAI we are supposed to fully commit to a boarding even if the Marines are not left clinging on to the target ship with no retreat possible (stage 1, they haven't jumped through an airlock yet).

There's no sensible way to stop it in vanilla once started (at present). It has been requested a few times before (example).

Thanks Alan, :) that sounds like you have insider knowledge its on a to-do items list.
.. Or should I bug the devs with a report?

No insider knowledge here, just faith that the devs see reports and act if sensible/practicable and meet commercial limitations. This is the correct forum though as any change request would be a gameplay suggestion (it is currently working as intended/coded) and so not a bug report. We can but hope though.

I suspect that any recovery from an operation in progress is not a trivial matter to code/add as there is currently no 'escape on boarding failure' mechanism in X4.

What's a bit odd is that when the going gets tough, some of the marines say "Abort, back to the boarding pods!", yet they never do. Perhaps the intent was there by Egosoft, but it was too difficult to do.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

That would have been appropriate if they said that just as I sold the ship from under their feet :D

Text and voice reused from X Rebirth maybe?
