Ladies and gentlemen, it's been an honour.

Post by pjknibbs »

Posting this as a new topic so it doesn't get lost in the other thread. Basically, had a chat with the doctor this morning and he's told me the CAR-T therapy has failed, so my cancer is now officially terminal and there's nothing more that can be done other than treat the symptoms. I might have weeks, maybe a few months at most. So, next time this user account goes quiet for more than a few days you'll know what's happened.

Meet you on the other side of the jumpgate.

Thank you for sharing your journey to this point with a dignity and clarity that may have helped others coping with perhaps similar journeys of their own or of people close to them. You will want some time to assimilate the new situation but then I'm sure you will go into thorough organisational mode. I can only wish you comfort and tranquility as you fare onward.

It was a pleasure having you aboard this space ship. Fare well my friend!

EDIT: If you want to, i can create a small memorial in the game. Let me know if that is ok for you, if you have a certain wish where, let me know (x4).

You've been a valued forum member for longer than I've been frequenting the X forums. (~ 22 years).

It's really sad news and you'll be missed.

I am sad to hear that, you are such a part of the fixtures and fittings here, it will be odd without you. I agree with Alan too, your openness and frankness has been very useful and thought provoking. I too wish you comfort and tranquillity, which is all we can all hope for. Good luck with your journey and if I am lucky, will meet you and others like you beyond the gate.

Paul, it's a privilege to know you and I'm humbled by how you've handled this incredibly difficult journey. I do hope you will continue to share your thoughts in the time you still have ahead of you.

And I hope you can agree to Linolafett's suggestion. - Two decades is a long time to know someone, and it makes no difference that few if any of us ever had the pleasure of meeting you in the 'real' world, and I'd love to see a reminder of you within the game that brought us all together.

Sad news, Paul. You will be missed. As Isaac Asimov once said, "Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome." I do hope you have a good one.

What sad news Paul :(. Thank you for being you. I'll miss you, as will the X Universe. I hope what time you have left is peaceful and pain free.

The silver lining is at least, that we have the opportunity to send you a "fare well".
You have made a lasting impression on us here and we will take you with us for the rest of our life.

Words fail me, Paul. You have been a fixture on this forum, and the one before this if I remember right, and will be sorely missed.

Farewell fellow Xer. It's been a pleasure hanging out with you.

I am not sure whether life or death is the greater mystery. There is very little that we actually know about either. It has been said that the art of living is the art of dying. You have inspired us with your demonstrated artistry in both. The path ahead that faces you, is a well-traveled one that we all will walk.

Thank you for showing us that it is possible to make this journey with intelligence and grace! Trust that the universe that brought you into this life, has more in store for you to experience! I am sure that from time to time, those of us who have come to know you here, will remember you with fondness. May such thoughts reach and nourish you wherever you are.

Sure, go ahead, I'll leave it to dealer's choice where it goes.

Very sad news, Paul. You have been a major part of this forum since I first joined and I have found your posts to be informative. Thanks for keeping us informed on your progress with this illness over the months. Like others, I was hoping there would be a positive outcome. The Colonel Ray Butts reference in the heading seems appropriate if that was intended.

Take care and hope you have a peaceful and pain free time.

A classy post from a class act. I've always admired your sang-froid in your interactions with others here.

Hi Paul,

I'm crushed to hear this. While I don't engage often on this forum anymore, it's been a home to me for many years and you have been a huge part of that. I have immensely enjoyed reading your comments and interacting with you over the past couple of decades.

You have made a difference to peoples lives that goes beyond those in your immedate vicinity.

For whatever lies ahead for you, I wish you all the peace in the world, and thank you.

I'm so sorry to hear this! It is hard to find the words to help cheer up someone facing such news. For what it is worth, I am certain that this mortal life is not the end, that our existence extends beyond death, and that we will have the chance to be with our loved ones again.

We'll all be joining you someday, so you'll have good company!
