How to dock on a ship moving 309m/s

I got a mission to pick up a fella and take him somewhere. Well, that somewhere happens to be a ship that is moving at 309m/s
How am I supposed to dock there with a ship that has a max speed of 160?
I see no option to ask them to hold still. I figured through intuition that they would stop when I ask to dock, but they don't....

Have mk2 docking computer.

Travel drive behind it.

Disable travel drive and boost for the landing pad.

Take a couple of shots at the ship, that usually slows them down....
