'Trade for station' command does nothing

All versions so far (1.21 now).

Assigned a Mercury to trade (sell) energy cells for my PHQ by issuing the 'trade for' command. Command shows up correctly in standard behaviour, the ship lifts off from station… and then does nothing. It flies around aimlessly for a couple of minutes, then stops somewhere in space. It doesn't load up energy cells from the station or anything. Re-issuing the command doesn't help. Pilot is a 3*.
