Gas mining basics

Post by CaptDom »

Hi,

I have bought a Gas mining ship, filled it with crew and resource probes. Is there anything else I need?

Have gone to a Gas field placed probes but how do you collect gas? Asteroid mining seems more straight forward with your turrets but Gas mining there is not controls in setting, no tutorial this is so frustrating.

My gas miner has drones and auto collects gas but then he stands still and don't sell it. but there are some stations who would buy in range.
The other miners (minerals) do theyr work.
What I do wrong?

Could be you don't have satellite coverage of stations that buy gas. No sat coverage auto-miners and traders can't see them I believe. Or that you have restricted the range of your miner such that it can't get to the buyer station within that gate limit. I've noticed that not that many stations demand gas.

There is no manual gas mining. It's only done automatically by giving the ship the order to mine gas.

I set he restricted range to max. But you'r right I don't cover the stations who buy helium by satellite.
So I ordered the gas miner to dock there on the station, but even if the station will buy methan, I can't sell it by remote. Maybe I have to be next to the ship?
Anyway thank you for your help so far. I will test this out.

edit: --> My minerlas miners selling they'r stuff in sectors where are no satellite in. So it seems that this might not be the problem.

I have two gas miners and I told them to use automine and selected the gas I wanted it to focus on, I haven't had an issues what so ever, pre or post total trade offer visibility. (I buy the license and don't bother with sats before I can buy those)

Not a good market though, my two large miners is delivering gas faster than the stations can use it (long after 1.32), so I'm only delivering two types of gas since the demand for the last one was too low to bother with.

Start with mining Nividum, the trade station seems to pay around 40m creds, before the demand dies. Not sure if NPC trading or how they coded the fake demand, vut something is making the market crash, mine is dead, with the best I've seen is one trade station with a four Nividum demand after many hours.

Go for Silicon as the next highest payback, but the demand only takes a few L miners to keep up with.

In my game Ore is at 100K demand and I have ten L miners that can't make the demand drop.

Haven't started on the ice market yet, so not sure what it can handle.

Note: That it's prolly better to invest in stations, it generally seems like a bad idea to use autotrade and automine selling to NPC stations, when you can supply your own stations and let the NPC market starve while you sell directly to the trade end point stations. (I haven't actually done the math to check that the game isn't creating more credits at non-endpoint trade wares. Artificial economies can be rather silly, but I'm not in the mood to figure out if it's balanced and is just going to pretend it is.)

I think you need to just fly in gas and it will automatically collect gas (that's what I heard anyway). I personally didn't use them yet so I might be wrong... Maybe you need to hold O button to collect gas?
It's not world hunger because we can't feed poor,it's because there will never be enough to feed the rich .....

I think there can be other reasons why miners/traders can "see" stations and sell wares to them. There is also a time element. For example if one of your ships flies past a station in radar range then the details of it are kept available to your ships for a number of game hours I think. Because a lot of stations require ore and a lot of them are near to the main transport gates this might explain why your ore miners are managing to sell their loads.

But this is unreliable. I would venture it is better than even money that if put a satellite next to the helium station your gas miner will sell there every time (unless it's full of course).

I'm going from the game manual entry on gas mining. You can't do it manually.
