Help understanding how to start researching

I need help understanding how to start research. I see that some of the tutorials are context sensitive, so I'm not sure if there's a tutorial on research. I haven't seen one yet.

At the moment, I'm interested in knowing if I can research a blueprint scanner type device so I maybe don't have to spend quite as much buying blueprints.

Suggestions?

Maybe scanning data leaks (with a scanner in the suit?) is a way to get free blueprints? Do I need to do these scans when doing the fix leaks missions?
Anyway, I'm still interested in knowing how to start researching. Haven't figured that out yet.

You are on the right track! However, research and obtaining blueprints are two different things. For research ...

.. you need to do the HQ mission until you can dock at the HQ and talk to the Boron there. Then focus one the "hack part" of the research.

When you done with that there is a challenging and exciting way to get "free" blueprints ...

You need the space suit bomb and EMP (many of them). I also strongly recommend to get the space suit thruster. Then go EVA, attach the EMP bomb to a module which blueprint you want and detonate it. Look for several data leaks that have been generated by the EMP blast. After you scanned them all you have a chance (!!) to get the blueprint.

Im pretty sure its a bug ... but ... in case its not XD ....

I got the new science and research options where i can get all the Hacks mods and Telep....

everytime I try to start the research it starts and resets again as if i never klicked the button to start ..... some advice ?

when you say, keep scanning stations, do you mean scan stations till they are 100% scanned, or just ~75%

i still dont understand how to find bits of station i havent scanned yet. the colours dont seem to mean a thing

maybe they mean the distress signals that are on nearly any station
