How can i activate the mining turret

I´m sitting in my "Sunder" ship with two mining turrets and 7 crewmembers and stay in the front of an selected astoroid with silicon inside, but don´t have an idea to activate the turrets. The two seasts on the left and rigth site from the pilotseat are empty, have they to be filled with crewmembers, when yes how? Or give it an hotkey for this. What do i have to do. Thank you very much.

lol i'm in the exact same situation, except I couldn't afford a full crew. there are little symbols at the top of the hud and you can click them to change modes and I'm sure this has something to do with the mining turrets but cannot figure out how to get them firing and mining.

Also, I couldn't see a way to simply order my captain to go mining, surely there must be a way?
ok I figured out how to set the captain to "automine" but he is only going after space gases and is not using the mining turrets :/

I think i found the problem, the Sunder have only a cargospace for liquid cargo

yep that's probably it, bit dump that you can fit mining turrets to it tho. thanks for that mate.

there is a similar ship for minerals available at the paranoid warf in holy vision o7.... for minerals lol

So liquid/mineral mishap aside, has ANYONE successfully gotten their mining turrets to fire while they are the captain?

The AI can use them no problem when the ship is controlled by AI. However the AI does not mine efficiently (They will attack 0 mineral asteroids all day long given the chance)

One would think the player with a fully outfitted crew and ship with mining turrets could use said turrets to mine.
