[Guide] How to add your own Logo!

Logo-Folder: /Documents/Egosoft/X4/[Numbers]/logos/

Valid file formats are .BMP, .DDS, .GIF, .JPG, .PNG and .TGA.
Transparency in images should work as expected, but animations in GIFs will not play.

For the [Numbers] folder to be generated you will need at least one save-game, so the first step is to save your game at least once. After that, create the logos directory inside of the [Numbers] folder. The images you place inside the logos folder must be square and a power of two. A valid size would be 128x128, 256x256, 512x512, ... and so on.

After I placed the logo inside the folder, I had to restart the game and load the save-game. The logo will then show up for selection in the game. Press ENTER, click the tab Player Information and then scroll down to Custom Logos.

I have seen mention that the ideal default size / format for these custom logos' is 256x256, and 8bit RGB format .PNG
Additionally .PNG is the only one that is really supported by the game for using transparency.

Do you not also have to call them specifically playerlogo_01.png and increase the number for additional logo choices?

No. There is no naming convention requirement apart from the file extension, which must be one of those listed or a compressed version of one of them with a .gz extension. All files in that folder which meet those requirements will be found, regardless of name.

It only needs to follow a naming convention for normal and glow maps. They should have the same name as the logo, with an additional _glow. or _normal. part at the end.

Actually this is not entirely true. You can put in pics which are somewhat longer than squarer. It`s a bit hit and miss, but it works most times.

Also, if people learn how to mask their pictures you can make your logo look a real part of your ship. Perhaps I will demonstrate. :)

I didn`t keep strictly to the rules at all and it still worked. So there is some leeway.
