In an old snippit of a design doc posted last dec showing shipsizes and what not, Escape pods we're listed.
While XR had these as well, they we're more or less just another bit of loot to get.
With X4, kind of curious if these pods instead will actually serve a purpose of rescuing surviving crew from your downed ships as some screens show ships now have crew counts.
So if say a crew of 14 cost around i dono, 50k to hire in total, and the ship gets destroyed, would say 10 people be able to make it to the pods, be collected and then reused as crew on other ships?

In vanilla XR their role was to allow NPC pilots to escape their ships when bailing (sometimes rather a pain as the pods still showed as enemy when you would rather target the nearest active enemy fighter), but I have no idea what their full spectrum of roles are in X4.

It would be kinda cool if our crew had a chance of escaping in pods when their ship would get destroyed. And then they'd attempt to fly to the nearest station for pickup. I guess we'll just have to see as Egosoft haven't really revealed anything about pods or spacesuit flying yet. I think they are letting us find out for ourselves when the game is out

No, the cool part would be if you could offer a choice for the captured crew member of the enemy ship:
