Where would you like to buy X4 from?
Personally I use Steam for most of my gaming needs these days, but I have been buying some things through Humble Bundle if the game publisher is OK with donating to charity.
I was thinking about this to yesterday and I wanted to know how many people use steam, gog, humble, etc.
So here goes...
Edit: Ooops, I forgot to add the last option: In a real store that sells real DVDs. I guess that'll have to be write in vote since I can't change the poll.

Ideally gog, but I will buy from any DRM-free platform. So direct from Egosoft or Humble would also be fine, provided it's not a Steam key and does not need any online client.

While we need services that will allow us to download and patch games that we own forever, I don't feel good about them getting a third of the money I'll pay for X4. Valve is the last institution on Earth that deserves them. If I have to choose who to support, it'll be GoG because other companies don't care about great titles ending up in a trash can, forgotten.

Where I would "like" to buy it from depends entirely on how modding will work with X4 and whether or not I'll have to use a separate .exe in order to keep online services from breaking all my saves or not.
I'd rather walk down to a nice computer store and pick up the box, but that's not likely going to ever happen again. :/

Where ever is cheapest but most likely steam.
I don't care for DMR-free blah blah blah, its a game play it with or without DMR does not hurt your enjoyment of the game. With exception of U-Play, Urgh.
Most likely wont buy it on day 1, never do anymore.
As X games are labor intensive and have never got any time these days, unless I can retire its pointless for day 1 purchase atm.
Last game took me almost 3 months to start playing with a day 1 purchase and could only manage a day here and there.

If it was possible to buy the CD in a box like in the "days of yore", I'd happily do so, but that's not likely to ever happen again. I have my old PC set up next to my newer one, and move all of the monitor, keyboard, and rodent connections over in order to play older games on CD, because the newest version of Windows does not support on-disc DRM.
Of the other options, the one I would NOT want would be Steam, because I will not and for the most part cannot use them, for several reasons I won't go into detail about. I have not purchased at least 3 other major titles purely for the reason that Steam is not a viable option for me.
GoG would probably be the least awkward alternative, but still requires me dismantling my system, dragging it down two flights of stairs and however far down the street it takes to reach my car (less than a block if I'm lucky), and drive it to work where I have Internet service faster than slow dial-up. When you try to download a program and it tells you "14 hours remaining", that's not acceptable.

This is a regrettably uninformed opinion considering the facts.PabloRSA wrote:Where ever is cheapest but most likely steam.

No thank you.

Let me be clear, we do not allow detailed discussion of DRM on these forums as it inevitably leads to somebody making a statement that contravenes mandatory public forum rules. If this continues down that particular topic path then this thread will be locked without further warning.
Speaking personally, I am absolutely confident that Egosoft will do nothing that unreasonably limits the potential advertising, sales and enjoyment of their new game. That almost certainly includes their choices for outlets and methods of distribution.

...From anywhere that would supply it, so all of these answers are good for me.
Of course direct buy at ES would give the feeling of directly encouraging the team, which is always a plus.
Otherwise, Steam has proven to be reasonably convenient so far. It also provide the occasional massive discount if you're not-so-sure about the game you're buying. (This is not the case with X4. I know I want the game, and I don't mind paying full price for small devs... gotta keep them rolling otherwise we'll be stuck with EA crap forever.)
I'll see what's available at release, I guess. It will probably be Steam, both for convenience and for the easy access to workshop content.

Humans are deuterostomes, which means that when they develop in the womb the first opening they develop is the anus.
This means that at one point you were nothing but an asshole.
Some people never develop beyond this stage.

This attitude from Egosoft has always saddened me as DRM is a serious issue that deserves detailed discussion and does not only lead down paths you don't like.Alan Phipps wrote:Let me be clear, we do not allow detailed discussion of DRM on these forums as it inevitably leads to somebody making a statement that contravenes mandatory public forum rules. With that out of my system, I would prefer GOG simply because it's the only major platform today where I get to actually own the games I buy, but I'm ok getting it on Steam for a game I want as much as I want this one.
I honestly think the "direct from ES" option is misleading as that's simply not true anyway. Any direct from them will always actually be through Steam.

It's not an "attitude", it's pure experience. Almost every discussion about DRM leads sooner or later to someone advocating means to bypass DRM, thus bringing themself and others in trouble. See forum rule no. 5 for reference.Cdaragorn wrote:This attitude from Egosoft has always saddened me as DRM is a serious issue that deserves detailed discussion and does not only lead down paths you don't like.Alan Phipps wrote:Let me be clear, we do not allow detailed discussion of DRM on these forums as it inevitably leads to somebody making a statement that contravenes mandatory public forum rules. GOG or Direct via Egosoft. Want as few 'stuff' (i.e. loaders, portals, store-fronts, etc) between me and my game. And yea.
As little DRM as possible. Dont want that either. If too severe, wont buy the game at all.
..and would prefer 100% of my money go to ES, as opposed to giving Apple store, Microsft, Steam, or whoever a 30% (or whatever..) 'cut'.
