I think someone mentioned 'Helium Rain' on here some time back (probably years ago.) - It's a fully simulated economy space game on GOG, and it's free, which was a surprise in itself considering just how good the game is.

You start with a basic trade ship, 5,000 credits (sound familiar?) and a great tutorial system that slowly introduces you to more and more gameplay elements. You haul resources, build factories, do missions and fight if the fancy takes you, all while trying to move your embryonic company up the corporate ladder to first position.

The graphics are surprisingly good, and it works at the highest settings on my 'work' laptop, and I even love the background music. There's a steady learning curve into the game, and there was only one slight frustration for me when I set up my first autotrader, but that's more down to my slightly misfiring brain than a game flaw.

Really do rate this, and easy to just leap into it for 10 minutes when you have a little time to kill.

I’ll look into that, Helium Rain fella, thx, @chew.ie shame that didn’t work out, I purchased Battlefield 6 don’t waste yer cash, it’s just an utter cluster F ! £90 and 12 hours trying to get in my own portal, over 3 days, the EA change the goal post, and said you can’t have XP from bots as ppl were farming it, asked for a refund as they (EA/Dice) lied and got a middle finger from Steam.
Last time I play a BF game.

I did a cardinal sin and pre ordered Project Motor Racing, as I still play about with one of their from 8 years ago! Project cars 2.

Other than that, I broke my wrist, may need an op, and my wife needs a pacemaker! This retirement lark is something else!

Take care all

That looks pretty interesting. I'll try it out at some point... if I can tear myself away from X4. Thank you for the recommendation!

Oof. My sympathies -- I've broken both wrists (at separate times) and it's not fun. Best luck and best health to you and to your wife. 🌈🍀

Helium Rain is also free on steam and has been for a while now. The reason the game is free is that the person behind them shut down the studio producing them, so they decided to just to give the game away for free, while also releasing the coding for the game as open source so you could actually use the game's source code to produce your own game.

I bought Helium Rain when it was early access.

It was worth the money back then.
Having it for free is even better.

It's a bit sad the game wasn't commercial success - the foundation was solid and would be even better if they expanded it with more planets, sectors and ships.

Many thanks fella, I can’t believe you broke both wrists! It’s a nuisance as you only have one arm to do any heavy bag lifting, hey ho, thank you for your wishes to my wife too, that was very kind of you.

Still doing my mixes, stops me from going mad 🤣

Oh I just added Helium Rain. So I’ll pop on that tomorrow now

Take care

Oh, just a note on Helium Rain... I played the game building a trade empire and felt pretty smug as it grew... But because it was undefended, the pirates have just captured a station, obliterated my fleets and effectively ended the game for me as the Shipyards ain't got the resources to build new ones at the minute...

I'll start again, and consider the 13 hours on the previous game as a learning experience. (Saving is handled by the game, with no previous iterations to go back to.)

£60 for the game, you're lucky if I spend that much on games in a year nowadays.

Found a little gem at the weekend called Little rocket lab an indie game with a current price of £16. The best way to describe what kind of game it is, if Stardew Valley and Factorio were to get together and have a baby, Little Rocket Lab is what that baby would be. It has a demo if you want to try it out.

The game I have been playing the most right now is Stranded: Alien Dawn wanted to try it for a long time, but it used to have Denuvo inserted into it and I don't do Denuvo, but Paradox Interactive bought the IP and quickly removed Denuvo, so I bought it at the last sale been playing it since. It's in the style of Rimworld and if you like Rimeworld then you would probably like this, but I would say it is way easier than Rimworld, if you have never played Rimworld then this would be a good introduction to that type of game, but to be honest I would still recommend Rimorld over Stranded Alien Dawn.

I love both the humor and the gameworld they created with that series. (TOW 1 and TOW 2) If you do like action RPGs with a cRPG background (ruleset mechanics are rather oldschool) there is a good chance it is "for you". I'd say check out TOW1 first - it's cheaper. On GOG you have a longer period to try it out (30 days). TOW2 is in general an improved over TOW1 - minus the companion handling (that one got dumped down - we can't equip them anymore, they have "story armor & weapons" now :( ).
