It's freaking boring having a game tailored to one shiptype only. We could see the beginning with X3:R with the OP-as-**** Hyperion which then continued with Hyperion & Springblossom in TC (to be fair they where OP-as-slightly-less-**** than in X3R). In XR the whole game is designed around this freakship beeing OP and "special". In X3 it was at least optional. I do NOT wish to see a continuation of this trend!
This is nothing new.

X-BTF : X-perimental shuttle : OP
X-T : Perseus/X-perimental : OP
X2 : No real OP ship (as far as i remember), however most people say Argon Nova and Split Dragon were the best in the game

But yea, games like X shouldn't be designed around only a single/few ships as the "most powerful ships in the galaxy", all ships should have strengths and weaknesses. Also, no ship should be "player only" (well, except the x-perimental maybe), the player should be just like any other pilot in the universe, with the same kinds of ships like everyone else (again : unless you involve the x-perimental shuttle).

Hah! You haven't heard of the Teladi Osprey, have you?
Let me tell you something: M2s are obsolete once you have an Osprey.

The X2 Dragon was a thing of beauty, I always bought one just to admire, even though I never quite got the hang of how use it and usually switched to an Osprey until I could afford a Titan. It wasn't so much the ships that were OP in X2 as the aoe weapons such as the ion disruptor and all versions of psg.

Tend to agree with that - my favourite was the Hydra - IonD on the front, APSG turret on the back & a big hold full of missiles to lob at enemies when their shields went down, normally at absurdly short ranges (X2 Hydra was also quite fast).

20) I don't want to see ANY space grannies / space nuns / Scarface / Quasimodo / Hazmat-suit / Ass-for-a-face NPC......EVER!

I found it highly refreshing that Egosoft used character models with, well more character. Instead of taking the easy route of gorgeous women with impossibly pneumatic breasts and men with superhero bodies, they instead chose models that I think of as more realistic.

I consider this a brave move on their part.

As someone who is nearer to 60 than 50 and who's partner is actually a grandmother it's a welcome change to see older women represented in a game. I also have a nephew who has suffered due to facial disfigurement. Therefore I don't mind having "Scarface" in the game either. This helps to remind me that space is a harsh and hostile environment.
It was a woman who drove me to drink... you know I never went back and thanked her.

Don't try to outweird me, three-eyes. I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

@Zaph: It wouldn't be a problem if they would be one of the many, but these are like 90% of NPC which is creepy.

90%? Is there really a need for such excessive hyperbole? Majority of NPCs I've seen are young & not disfigured in any way.

Also agree with Zaphod on this - I rather like having NPCs of varying ages in the game & a few scarred faces are certainly appropriate given the events in lore preceding the start of the game (PMC revolution in Albion, constant skirmishes between Reivers & RoC in DV, Xenon incursions into OL, etc).

Personally would like a greater variety of NPCs in the game - sometimes feels like a universe populated entirely by clones & removing some of the existing NPC character models, solely because they aren't pretty enough, would only make that worse.

Yeah, I don't mind the frequency of old-looking characters. The X universe is a long way into the future - people are probably in working shape a lot longer than we would be today. Interesting world building takes precedence over eye candy IMO.

I dont mind if there are slightly better/specialised ships, as long as they have weaknesses compared to other ships. Achieving a "perfect" balance isn't possible anyway, as everyone has different preferences and definitions of "balanced" or "OP". But when a ship is straight up better then everything else it's just flat out boring. Particulary if this ship is YOUR ONLY CHOICE.

Also i'd like to add a number 2b) to my post:

2b) "Prototype" versions of ships that are better then standard versions
Prototypes are pre-series production vehicles. They are full of errors and defects that have to be fixed. It makes no freaking sense that they are simply better then standard ships.

I don't want Multiplayer, "Social Features", FPS mode (ie. walking on stations).
So a lot of focus can be put into things that matter like gameplay, more piloteable ships etc.
