Re: Random News not worthy of own thread
Anyone else remember when someone suggested if we allow advertisers to use our printers, we wouldn't see adverts online?. Barking mad, "Ooh yes please! use all my expensive ink and paper to show me toilet roll adverts". How about everyone gets an underskin implant so we can be tracked everywhere, have a unique ID, and be susceptible to having our arms chopped off when someone wants your id. And ad feeds on websites being easily hijacked by malware. Ad companies, wonderful bunch of .. chaps.

Yeah, but how about we also put ads in space, so you can absolutely not escape them nor block them. You think seeing the stars or moon at night is one of the few universal experiences humanity still has in common? Well think again, because soon kids will go out at night to look up at the Coca-Cola logo instead. Oh your star sign is Scorpio? Mine is the Siemens ad!alt3rn1ty wrote: ↑Wed, 1. Solar and Wind have been around decades, but wonder how it took so long for the west to half heartedly invest...Renewable energy overtook coal as the world's leading source of electricity in the first half of this year - a historic first, according to new data from the global energy think tank Ember.
China remains way ahead in clean energy growth, adding more solar and wind capacity than the rest of the world combined. This enabled the growth in renewable generation in China to outpace rising electricity demand and helped reduce its fossil fuel generation by 2%.
In contrast, developed nations like the US, and also the EU, saw the opposite trend.
In the US, electricity demand grew faster than clean energy output, increasing reliance on fossil fuels, while in the EU, months of weak wind and hydropower performance led to a rise in coal and gas generation.

Poland picked up a trend I hope will eventually die, with their specific spin on the Sharia police the so called Szon Patrol. The aesthetic and method is the same that we saw from self styled Sharia Police in West Germany a few years ago, only that the polish brand uses yellow instead of orange vests. The mission, shaming and humiliating young woman who do not follow their values however hasn't changed, only with a different spin on it as the mysogny by these groups of young man isn't motivated by Islamist fever, but good old fashioned European "values".

I might be bit rusty on teenager pato-streamer trends, but I never heard or seen this in Poland.clakclak wrote: ↑Tue, 7. This is something that will not gain traction, coz either polish women or/and their boyfriends would beat the sh*t out of those szon-patrols.
I don't think I'm old fashion or something, but I'm quite sure going to random female in Poland and calling her "sl*t" would constitute high chance of justified violence towards offender.
I had to Google "Pyskowice" from that tiktoc video and it seem to be small (15k town).
This might be some niche small-town pathology that will end even faster (don't underestimate small-town polish women ability to seek vengeance - smaller population means you have less room to hide

Yeah, about 20s looking it up means it's not anywhere near as widespread nor prevalent as it is made to sound. Probably why the linked article didn't source material but just vaguely mentions it.
First thought reading it was along the lines of "is this fake Ai videos created to try and stir something up..."
Where did you find out about this (as in, do you read heraldousa), as it may be more along the lines of "targeted" faux news/outrage to generate spread. The original website linked is Spanish speaking Mexico/USA/South America news, so odd it's picking up tiny story from Poland... where the only news articles about it are in Polish or various "social" media tiny bits, and all a month old. The news article is also 3 weeks old... the original source of some appears to be a facebook post...
Strike you as odd?

A justified question. I linked that soirce because it was in English. I found out about it on Deutschlandfunk, their sources are victims and Kinga Szostko, founder of an polish anti mobbing app.Chips wrote: ↑Tue, 7. Oct 25, 19:24[...]

Make of that what you will, here is some more information on Deutschlandfunk (it is a public broadcaster, to give a very rough idea, think of BBC radio in the UK).
EDIT: I also looked a bit into the reporter who reported on this: Here is what he says about himself.
Przemysław Żuk wrote:[...]I was born in Poland in 1999 and grew up between Zielona Góra and later Cottbus. I studied to become a high school teacher of Biology and English at the University of Leipzig. During my studies, I gained experience in Russia and Kenya. At the same time, I started working as a freelance journalist for a private radio station.
After passing my state exam [a state exam in teaching is comparable to a Master of Education degree in other German states/European Countries], I decided to pursue my passion for radio. I completed a journalism practical training at Deutschlandradio.
Today, I work as a freelance journalist, mainly for the three Deutschlandfunk stations. My main areas of focus are eastern Germany, German-Polish relations, and post-socialist and migrant identities. In September 2025, I took on a temporary position as a radio correspondent at the ARD studio in Warsaw.

Re: Random News not worthy of own thread
Microsoft is trying to remove the option of setting up windows 11 with a local account. You can use an old install on a usb to bypass it still. So save your old win 11 version usb and use microsoft update assistant if needed to update the old win 11 version. It might not be able to update after a certain point without using the assistant.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/technology/so ... r-AA1O1iJk
If you prefer to install Windows 11 without linking it to a Microsoft account, those days are distinctly numbered, as Microsoft is busy closing more of the loopholes that allow for the use of what's known as a local account.
Windows Central reports that in the blog post for preview build 26220.6772 of Windows 11, Microsoft informs us that it is "removing known mechanisms for creating a local account in the Windows Setup experience".
A local account simply means a user account which is just on the PC, and isn't linked online to a Microsoft account – and as some folks don't want to sign up for the latter, they prefer to stick with a local installation.
It's already the case that Windows 11's setup forces you to use a Microsoft account, but the thing is, there are some clever fudges that can be leveraged to get around this requirement. This is what Microsoft is referring to when it talks about "known mechanisms" and so the idea is that it's stamping out these popular workarounds to obtain a local account.
Microsoft further warns that these fudges could mean that important parts of Windows 11's setup process could be accidentally skipped.

It's yet another good occasion to switch to Linux then
No one really "needs" Windows anymore. Apple proved that as well - and on Linux wine is an impressive and reliable tool to run Windows programs. It's really just about changing habits at this point

And yet another case of a school's AI survaillance system getting students in trouble. This time around the AI mistook a bag of chips for a gun and informed the police that "hey, there is a student with a gun here". Thankfully nobody ot hurt.clakclak wrote: ↑Sun, 10. While this is not news, it is pretty cool. It's a website that displays every satellite, space debris, rocket bodies and unknown objects currently circling the planet in real time.
Leolabs. It just goes to show just how much of a mess we have even managed to make above us and not just down here on the planet, we will not be happy until we have totally ruined every aspect of our world. By the way, notice that most of it has something to do with Starlink. Turn off beams and instruments, while turning on Debris to fully enjoy how bad it is.
