Threads giving Malware warnings

Post by Bishop149 »

Ok, a lot of threads (seemingly only the first pages) here are suddenly giving me attack site warnings through Chrome. Specifically it highlights the following Malware signature:

Code: Select all

Has the forum been upgraded with something that's erroneously reading as dodgy or is there a real problem?

This is the message I got when trying to visit that site, was:

"We believe the page you requested will try to harm your computer or steal your personal information. Visit it at your own risk."

Here is why we are getting this:

Goldfinch avatar points to "http://usuarios.lycos.es/inundacion/ima ... dgehog.gif" and that site is classified as malware by google.

I wasn't aware I had an avatar. I've never seen one on any of my posts. I "deleted" it in my profile anyway, to be on the safe side.

The site runs the DSNR advertising engine instead of Google ads.
To Google that's malware.

Why do you run this sad excuse for a browser anyway ?
Try Opera.

Good deal, no more warnings. Previously, I saw a missing image icon in place of your avatar. Thanks!

I don't see why a user should have to remove their avatar because someone's browser is giving a false positive on a malware warning. If the browser is at fault, either turn off that feature or just live with it until enough people complain to get it fixed (maybe even notify Google yourself).

How about I put some pr0n in my signature or avatar then ? :) Not mentioning that the avatar in fact was just a broken link, returning some HTML instead of an image. Any safe browser should rise an alert in this case. If your browser doesn't, check for malware just in case

I thought we'd identified that the site in question didn't contain malware, but was giving a false positive. If it is genuine malware, then yes, remove the avatar.

I didn't intend or want to have an avatar, and I removed it myself, so no need to argue on my behalf. What I expect happened was I pulled an avatar image from Google when I first signed up to the forums years ago, and forgot about it. No idea if the malware report is a false positive or not, I don't know what the site was.

I hear that a lot from casual users.
Most of them also like G-mail and Google docs.

Ah well, privacy is overrated anyway . .
