Hmm, so is this actually suggesting there is something other than the PC version? If so, and this really is a multi-platform release, as I always suspected the TNBT was going to be, in what way will the PC version get shafted as that is the inevitable conclusion of pretty much every release. Even Crytek admitted themselves that CryEngine 3 for Crysis 2 was not much more than a compromise due to console technology.
I'm hoping that the line above is nothing more than a throwaway comment and I'm reading more into it than there is. But even if that's true, and this new game is yet another game with space broken into chunks linked by gates I think I'll give this one a miss and continue playing Pioneer instead.
Well my two cents with this being multiplatform is that Crytek, had to lower a lot of settings and tweaks just to be put on the console. Now CryEngine 3 was stressful on the GPU and not much from the CPU, but with X, it has always been mainly stressful on the CPU with all the polygons and stuff not to mention then using the GPU to fill it with pretty colours and lights. It would be possibly but they would have to tweak the game a lot and remove a lot of the ships flying around the universe sorta thing and just have a few. I hope that X will stay a PC game but thats up to the developers. Putting it on console would open up another world and lots of possibilities, but it would also have a lot of restrictions for consoles and the PC.

Heavily story and linear based, its a new x game they did sandbox enough times they could try a linear plot driven game. Not many space linear games about these days. Last good one was freelancer and that was quite awhile ago now."
Too Old? im another 10yrs on you and play all the time!! We don't stop playing when we get older...we get older because we stop playing!!
Too old? I'm 55.
Keep telling yourself that

God you guys make me feel like a kid again I'm only 53! Looks like the guys at New Egg are gonna be putting me back on their Christmas card list when I start ordering components for the build.

This will be a day 1 purchase for me when it hits Steam. Now to start looking at GPU upgrades as my 8800GT is getting long in the tooth. I want to see this game in its full glory!
Finally,
and i have to say the graphic detail look's even better.
Wish i did'nt have to wait till end of year to get the game.
Waiting with anticipation.
Glad I'm not the oldest guy here. I just turned 50, and so far it's kicking my ass. The very week after my birthday I threw my back out horribly, and a mere two weeks after that I got a cold that made my head feel like a watermelon and made me spend all of yesterday with a 101 F fever.
Hoping that being 50 gets better!
Anyway I'd be extremely psyched if the Xenon or the Khaak (I never did finish X2--are they still a factor?) could actually take over sectors (until the forces of good beat them back, of course, either with or without the player's help), instead of just invading a sector with a bunch of ships whose only goal is to destroy everything. Kind of like the Dominators in Space Rangers 2. As to what would happen to player-owned stations/factories, maybe their proceeds could just be "sequestered" until the sector was liberated.

Actually, the multiplatform thing might work. If they have/are keeping a jobs and jobwings file, then can't they have a version for the PC (fully loaded, etc) and a cut down streamlined version with say... 1/2? 1/3? the jobs and wings and use that for a console version? This kind of modularity seems like a pretty good thing

One of the missions in TC had the player take part in a joint-race Commonwealth military campaign against the Kha'ak. They're still around, but supposedly in much fewer number than in X2.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.

GL egosoft.
I don't think you are upsetting anyone.
As I point out in my posts in this thread,a lot of these posts are just wish lists and conjectures based on what little information is really there.
But even I sometimes phrase my thoughts incorrectly and annoy some players purely by accident.
That does not stop me from posting.I just think a bit more about what I am trying to say.

The new graphics style looks interesting, I think I could grow to like it and above all its a change which is a good thing. I guess its the difference which is most suprising it reminds me of a rustic Homeworld style and thats not a bad thing it could make things feel more alive and less artificial.
The points discussed in the game sound really good and a genuine step forward.
As risky as it might sound I urge you to consider community particiaption in polishing the game Egosoft is well known and respected for its post release support but its also true you tend to overlook important details. If you look at Eagle Dynamics example they not only pleased their fan base they also bought in a lot of new players that otherwise would never have bought their sim/game.
When all is said and done I would pre-order now if I could.
The community has always participated in the "polishing" of EgoSoft games AFAIK and that's why both game and updates/patches undergo beta testing prior to release.

I think it would be great if Egosoft went multiplatform - the X series is amazing and with X Rebirth being a whole new reboot of the X series, now would be a better time than ever to introduce console players to one of the best PC series of all time.
Obviously, yes, they would have to streamline it somewhat, reduce the load on the CPU, especially for the Xbox 360 who has a much more powerful GPU but if Egosoft could make it multiplat and advertise it well then not only would they have a MUCH bigger fanbase, they'd also be raking in much more money too!
But if there's no chance of multiplat, I just hope Egosoft advertise it as much as X Rebirth will deserve. I've never seen an X game advertised, (I only found out about X3TC because I saw it in a Steam sale), so advertising X Rebirth should hopefully allow Egosoft to get more of the recognition they deserve.
We have a saying that goes something like this "The Christmas lasts until Easter", and this was certainly the best Christmas gift this year! Thanks Egosoft! I am really looking forward to the release
On the multiplayer issue, I would rather see all the effort goes into making a great single player game, rather than spending too much time/resources on the MP. The X-games are so big that depending on a friend while playing them could potentially result in unwanted delays/waiting periods if/when they are unable to play.
